I have been kicking around the idea of reloading for my .45acp so I can shoot more often. Can I get some ideas on what books and or manuals I should read before I begin buying equipment and to famliarize myself with the process.

Thanks

The ABC's of reloading is a good book from what I hear. It gives you the how to's but is not a reloading manual and doesn't have load data. The Speer and Lyman reloading manuals are good manuals.

Knew that I had seen a list of books somewhere and even clicked back on that thread but I guess that my eyes went right to the equipment info and didn't notice the book and manual listings.

Guessing that the Lyman #49 is the Lyman metallic reloading book?

Thanks guys

You may find my website handy:
www.ultimatereloader.com

Click on articles under "Info Center" on the left hand side, and you can learn about what the reloading process looks like, what equipment you need, and basic info alike different bullet types, etc.

I also have HD videos of reloading 45ACP and other pistol cartridges on the Redding T-7, Hornady Lock-N-Load AP Progressive, and the Dillon XL650. I'll even have videos covering the Lee Loadmaster here soon.

This is a great forum to read threads on as well.

Hey neighbor, I just live right down the road in Lewisport. I just recently got into reloading and found a great book at the library. It was the Speer's reloading manual ( I think). I read it about 20 times until I had it all memorized. Maybe that will help you and only cost you a library card.

I have my equipment set up in the workshop if you want to drop by sometime so I could show you the step by step methods involved (something I had to figure out on my own and wish someone had shown me). While I'm no expert, you can see the equipment that is needed and the basics.

Right now, I'm loading for the .223 and 44 magnum.

The one thing you need in this hobby, maybe even more than books, is a buddy. Let me encourage you to contact Mr Gaynor.

You can bum primers on Sunday night, look over each other's shoulders, swap dies, do group buys on powder... the help you can give/get is simply immeasurable.

I am lucky and learned reloading from my father and anytime I have a question he is just a phone call away or if I want to see how to do it I just drive down the road and he is usally more then happy to show me, but a reloading buddy helps out too which I don't have outside of my dad.

Lead Bullets

If you haven't already, consider starting with lead bullets. They are lower pressure, easy to load and easy on your pistol. I started using lead a while back and have been very happy with the results. The bullets are also less expensive than copper jacketed.
