Let me start by saying i LOVE my Springfield Operator... Love it!... when it's working. Long story short - I picked up my operator a few years ago - before the TRP was released. It's Great... except no matter what the slide won't stay back on an empty mag but 1 out of every 50 or 60 times. I've tried new mags from the factory, new hi production mags, and some new high end custom mags. It's not the mags. Second it smokestacks. Different kinds of ammo - hollow point, soft point jacketed, FMJ, wad cutters. Cheap ammo, expensive ammo, hand loaded ammo. It's not the ammo. Third, accuracy - It's pretty dead on but it has issues (again it's not the ammo it happens with it all) from time to time. I contacted Springfield and they pretty much told me it was all my fault but if I didn't think so that I should file part of my weapon down so that it fed better. Thank you no. YOU can file it down when I send it back but I'm not doing it. Oh and for the record this gun has done this since I got it. First 100 rounds out of the box. - The latest issue has put me over the edge - ejection failures and misfires. So now I want to replace it. I want to spend about what I spent which was around 1G - I'm looking for your ideas. Oh and i have to have a rail. I have too many accessories to just give them up when I get a new gun. I'd like a 1911 but I'm not married to it. If i don't get a 1911 this time I'll end up getting one sooner or later but I prefer a 1911. So I'm casting my line to see if I get any hits on this inquiry of recommendations.

Man - the more I read about Semi autos the more I realize that there are lots of problems with all of them.
Only a few names seem to stand out as being EXTREMELY reliable.

Sig
H&K
Glock
& XD

And perhaps some others.... But Glock, Sig & H&K seem to have more happy owners than most....

As mentioned, I would hit the usual playuhs...HK, Glock, SIG and get the one that worked best in your hands ;)

You can go through all that and still LOVE the gun?:D Sorry for the bad luck, I'd ship it back to SA, and tell them to FIX it. As for a reliable gun with a rail, what the others said. I love my G19, its 100% reliable, hits where I point it, and way less than 1G:D

How many rounds through it? I find it odd that failures started creeping up all of a sudden. I vote to get SA to make it right.

Once it's corrected by Springfield, sell it and use the money along with your 1K and pick up a SA PRO w/ rail.

I guarantee you'll love it.

I'll throw in a vote for a CZ of some sort. A 75, Rami, 97, or any on their line would work just fine. Relatively cheap, but it wont fail you.

I find this really hard to believe as I have never heard anyone complain about Springfield service. Also base this on my own experience with them.

Tell you what I'll do. I will give you $150 for that unservicable weapon, as long as there was no kitchen table gunsmithing on it. After delivery, I will send it right to Springfield for them to look over and fix. I will then post how well it shoots.:D

Would you be happy with another Operator that proved to be relaible? If not, then get a different gun altogether. If so, send it to SA for warranty and I'll bet they get it running like a champ. Lifetime warranty. Use it if you really like the Operator. If it's just a case of wanting something different, then getting it fixed won't take care of that problem ;)

From what I'm hearing from Springfield owners the customer service is excellent. A shooting buddy has sent his loaded model back twice for repair. Once to replace a split barrel, and most recently to replace an ejector with a broken pin. The first time he got the gun back in two weeks, this last time it was one week to the day. That's excellent service in my book! I would document all the problems you are having with your Springfield, and pack it up and send it back. I'd bet they would fix it, given a chance. I wouldn't have been as paitent with it as you have been. Good luck. Let us know how it turns out.

Send it in

I know it's a hassle but it is their dime. Then it will run perfectly. Or you could get a loaded Champ and have the perfect gun. But you have to fill out another form.

Thanks guys... Yes I would be thrilled with another operator. No I won't sell it for $100. I can't express enough how much I love this gun when it's working correctly. It's accurate 90% of the time (until the problems) it's solid in your hand and it's a 1911 - what's not to love. I called Springfield back explained my situation and how my last call was handled and they've offered to take care of shipping and handling look at the weapon for me (We've had to pay shipping for every other weapon I've ever hand a problem with - that's only 2 for myself and my family). I feel much better with the service I received this time compared to last time. I think I may have just gotten someone at the end of their shift ready to head home or the like last time. I have to say I hope I'm thrilled with the results because I'm not ready to say a teary eyed goodbye to this gun if I don't have to.

Let us know, how it goes! Glad to see your finally getting some service:)

If you feel your not being treated fairly, or the person on the line isnt hearing the problem the way your explaining, it never hurts to ask if you can talk to their boss. That usually gets their attention!
