So I've had no luck finding the mythic vaquero dagger I recalled seeing in Soldier of Fortune in my youth... any other ideas for a period knife to ride alongside my .44 stainless vaquero pistole?

Bowies, and Mexican daggers are preferred, feel free to offer links.

Prices range from $30 for the Western, $115 for the Case, $130 for the Ontario Bagwells, $260 for the Cold Steel Laredo, to $290 for the Camillus OVB Fisks in production Bowies. Customs range from $300 for a Kim Breed to $550 for a Tichborne and up. All of the knives mentioned are "traditional" Bowies instead of modern handle materials.

Muela makes both Bowies and Spanish daggers. Prices cover a large range and the upper end knives are very nice.

Might I suggest Matt Lamey? He makes a wide variety of, by all accounts, excellent bowies, and he seems to know a thing or two about actually using them as well. And on top of that, they are just BEAUTIFUL :)

One, if not several, of his are going to be in my future, I just know it.

For all kinds of "period stuff," including knives - go to: www.dixiegunworks.com

Their 700+ page catalog only costs $5.00 and most of the knives are historically correct and reasonably priced. Don't believe you'll find them in stainless steel though.

The Ontario Bagwells were the first things that came to my mind.

The "Gambler" (smallest, with the simple guard) is VERY period-correct.
