OK... am I stupid to shoot one of these ???

I started casually playing Texas hold'em, & am wanting a "poker" gun to add to my carry pieces... my original thoughts were a "special" derringer, or other vest pocket piece as kind of a classic poker gun ( thought I might develope a poker persona of the old tyme river boat gambler look )

I have contacted American Derringer, but they ( for some reason or another ), have gotten hugely expensive the last several years, & adding engraving puts them pretty over the top for my new "good luck charm" ...

the North American Arms mini revolvers have a "Snake Eyes" edition poker set with an stainless engraved 22 long rifle revolver...

while paying off my air weight j-frame 32 H&R last week, at the local "toy store", I noticed an, engraved & gold embossed blued poker limited edition j-frame in a poker chip set similar to the "snake eyes" mini revolver set...

so...

your guy's thoughts on carrying / using a gun out of one of these sets for use as my "poker gun" ... not an every day carry gun, but something to carry, only on my poker nights... of course I'd have to shoot either gun, if I were going to carry it, & would probably use one of the chips ( marked limited edition bla bla bla ), as a card keeper... my local "toy store" guy say's yes... go ahead & shoot them... I have mixed thoughts... the NAA Mini is only a $300.00 ish set gun, & if it were made on the 22 mag frame, I wouldn't even think twice about buying one... but I'm not as enthused with the 22 long rifle cartridge...

the S&W set is $700.00 ish, & is a very nice looking gun, ( though it is not a "traditional" vest pocket gun, it is a 38 special ), that one I question shooting, as it is very nice, but the price is far less than the engraved derringers I've looked at ???

both guns are part of cased unfired poker sets... what are your guy's thoughts on "actually" using one of these guns ????

anything else I'm missing here, that I should look at ???

Word of caution, people who do the dress-up thing at public games, the hardcore professionals will seek you out at a table like sharks and take you for every cent. It's a dead giveaway. You might as well get a big grin at the table every time you get a good hand, or frown when you don't.

Just sayin'. ;)

And...um...using? They're cute conversation pieces, but if you're playing poker any place you might need to use a gun at the table these days, I think you'd want something bigger. :scrutiny:

MANED... I'm a pretty conservitive guy... I play almost exclusively league poker, as I'm still learning, though I've made it to the final table at my last 4 games... I'm a pretty long way's away from even thinking about swimming with the sharks...;)

RUSTY... no, I don't play with anyone I might need to shoot ( as far as I know ), or the 38 would be my likely 1st & only choice... but as a new CCW guy, I kind of subscribe to the thought that the gun only does you any good, if you are carrying it... & in wanting some sort of "old tyme" look to go with the poker personna, ( & the likely fact that I wouldn't need it playing cards ), has me looking for something traditional, for use only when playing cards... however, the bulk of the games I play, are bar league games, so there is always the chance of something stupid happening out in the parking lot afterwards etc...

sorry, thread is kinda off track, I really just wanted to know your guy's thoughts on shooting an unfired limited edition gun out of a set, like the 2 poker sets I listed, ( they are not really expensive, but are limited number produced sets, & with the rarity of the S&W set unknown, as it never turned up with my internet searches ), or if you guy's knew of any other guns or sets that would fit what I was after ???

Just found this one, which was NAA's last years poker limited edition..."Gambler" model

This is this years "Snake Eyes" model...

Hmmm... maybe I'll buy both, & pull the grips & the lazer engraved cylinder off of last years "Gambler" model, & install them on the lazer engraved frame of the snake eyes pistol, & have something truely unique, at a cost less than the S&W ???

The Smith will hold its value well over the others.

I'd also look carefully at casino carry laws before I packed heat in a real money game.

As for traditional... I'd look into a real Remington Derringer, or the closest copy thereof.

so...DR.R... I'm assuming then, that you also think it fine to break into that poker set, as pictured above, & shoot, & occasionally carry that fancy unshot "smithy" ???

Dr. Rob,
I agree.

I had customers, and knew professional gamblers that participated in various disciplines of gambling if you will.

One Poker player in particular was really good! He looked like a Garbage Truck driver or Ditch Digger.

He was sharp, and I mean sharp not only in cards, also in IQ and finished College, at a young and early.

His poker guns were a well worn Model 36 and Model 37.

Professional Gambler, and he did attend Vegas and all the other "circuits". He played abroad too.
Just his family history being what is was, he still liked to show up - and ask to sit it on a game in a back room somewhere.

Both his daughter, and granddaughter took trips to Europe when old enough, and they inherited his smarts and card playing. Three Generations , playing poker and the currency was Gold.

Serious Business, Family took it serious as well.

so... the Remington Derringers I've seen, can be / are pretty expensive for anything over a fairly plain gun, & so far, every one has been chambered in 41 RF... is fresh ammo available in that cartridge from the cowboy ammo suppliers or ???
