ok, so im gonna hop on the OMG obama bus..

im wanting a solid semi auto that is accurate and has a practical range of around 500+ yards. id also like high caps..

id rather stay away from AR/M16 style rifles, just personal experience and comfort. i like AKs but they have never been accurate enough for me.

i was thinking .308 ass opposed to .223, 7.62x39, and 5.54x39 but would that be overkill?

also, i was poking around and came across the kel-tec rfb. they claim a 18" barrel, and 600m range. plus they take metric FAL mags. but i cant seem to find any reliable accuracy or pricing info. any help there?

i was also checking out mini-14s but i cant get past their reputation for a lack of reliable accuracy.
kel-tecs little su-16 dosent seem bad either. both mini-14 and su-16 are .223 tho.

im looking for solid input,
anything is much appreciated

OMG Obama bus?

If you end up buying an M1A on a whim because of Obama then could you please send me some money?

But yea a sounds like you need a springfield

i wouldnt call it a whim, ive wanted such a rifle 4 a long time, just never got around to it.

i realize 500 yards is a HUge number considering.. but it was just something to throw out, and the farm isnt small....... id guesstimate id have over 250 yards in alot of places that i could pop coyotes, before they hit the woods. i also realize that any bolt gun laying around here will pop a critter of that size that far out.. but at the same time.. id like to go ahead and pick up a semi before that right is taken from me as well.

m1a is a tit bit pricey, ive always wanted a M21 but i could but alot of AK ammo for that price..

almost seems like the best option is to buy a mini-14 in 6.8 and hope bigger mags hit the market or just say hell with it and buy the SU-16c and stick to bolt guns. i really do like that kel-tec bullpup tho. but any info i find says itll be either $1100 or like $1800 lol.. id do it for 11 IF it was sub 2 moa not for 18 unless it was sub 1 moa and REALLY felt good

PTR-91

M14 type

FAL type

Saiga .308

Lotta good choices in .308 besides AR types.. But I'd recommend an AR type for light weight, ergos, & ease of attaching optics.

Note: We use proper capitalization and punctuation on this site; if you're going to stick around, you need to correct that please.

thats because they dont exist, there a gun myth.
since nobody else has said it, romanian PSL
its 7.62x54R caliber is good out to 1000 yards and they are much cheaper than an m1a. hunting ammo is cheap too.

I saw M1A's at Academy last week. Shortage seems to be over, just waiting for the prices to fall as folks try to move their products.

I think that you will see prices getting cheaper and cheaper for a while, until another scare crops up.

Great idea on the rifle buy, just not sure this is the best time.

well, the RFB is supposed to be shipping, and its apperently amazing.

ive seen the psl, and read ALOT about it.. and was considering it before i came across the kel-tec. id rather get the .308 model to but they are hard to come by. AIM has the 7.62x54r models for 700 new.

thanks for everyones input, im gonna give it a couple weeks, and track down the best price on the 18" kel-tec. maybe see if the m1a prices start to fall.

a gun store near me has what looks like a draganov chambered in 8mm that would kill a yote

Springfield Armory M1A scout sounds like it would satisfy your requirements, as long as you have $1600 to spend. I have one and really like it.
