Ok, it may be slightly premature, but the questions need to be asked.

  • *Do you change your side arm from "Winter gun" to a "Summer gun"?
*Do you change your holster if you do not change your side arm?

I ask because I go from winter clothing to shorts, t-shirts and sandals.
My SIG 229 is a little hard for me to conceal in light weight clothes using my OTWB holster.

I am thinking about a S&W Air Weight (caliber undecided) or a small auto, but I have ham sized hands and all the small auto give me about 1 1/2 or 2 fingers on the grip, I hate that!

Just looking for what you all do when it gets warm.

I like to carry a Kimber "Ultra" in a Don Hume belt holster but with the Texas summers, even a vest is too hot most of the time.
Sometimes a floppy outside shirt works.

So, I'll carry a Kel Tec P-11 9mm/40cal in a boot.

I always carry a Kel Tec P3AT in a front pocket.

Then my cars always have 2 or 3 pistols and a Carbine.

I transition from a full-size 1911 concealed under a North Face vest to a full-size 1911 concealed under a Royal Robbins vest. :)

I carry a USP compact exclusively during the summer months. Fall, winter, and spring I rotate between that and a 1911.

When it's 80+ degrees out I really notice the 1911 on my hip and it can be uncomfortable. The USP is much lighter.

Same holster year 'round.

No gun change. I did somewhat adjust my summer wardrobe from mostly t-shirts to mostly patterned short sleeve button-down shirts. Those seem to conceal better. I can conceal under t-shirts but it seems like too many t-shirts are bit narrow around the waist area and I'd rather have something with more material there.

Beretta 92G but I can get away with OWB with an almost straight drop when wearing a coat in the winter time.

I'm confused - can some please explain what "winter" is?? Is that those two days in February where I had to close the windows??

Winter: Full-sized 1911 in a Galco "Concealable" under an untucked long sleeved shirt.

Summer: Full-sized 1911 in a Galco "Concealable" under an untucked short sleeved shirt.

A little trick I learned a few years ago is to leave the very bottom button unbuttoned. It really makes a difference when you have make a quick presentation.

No change. I have found you can conceal a reasonably-sized carry piece with a good IWB holster and a good belt, wearing shorts and a T-shirt. Just make the T-shirt a little baggy.

Or throw a Hawaiian shirt or a gaucho shirt over the T-shirt for additional coverage.

I tend to carry my Para Carry more in the winter, the P32 more in the summer. Though I am considering trying that Kangaroo holster thingy and seeing how it works for the summer carry.

Carry the same Colt 5" in the same Sparks on the same Rosen belt all year long. My BUG is a J-Frame 36 carried on the ankle with a Galco rig.

Fella's;

Same gun & holster all year long. USP compact in .40, Milt Sparks Exec's companion.

If Kahr, or someone else, would market something that was a Kahr size package in 9mm or .40 & hammer-fired, I'd consider it for a summer gun. But, until my criteria are met, I'll keep my money.

I may go from a belt holster to a IWB but I generally stick to carrying the same pistol. During the summer I will admit to being a bit more prone to just dropping a J frame and speed loader into my pocket if just running to the corner grocery and back.

Hey, thanks for the replies.
Guess I'll try the Sig and see how it goes, (but still may push for the Air Lite:D )

And you guys in the south..... Funny reallllly funny ha ha ha. Come in up to Northern Idaho, you'll wish you had El Tejons' fur. :D

Thanks

I used to carry my 229 year round. Now, I carry a 5" 1911 year round. The 1911 is enough thinner that it is easier to conceal. I carried the 229 in a High Noon Slide Guard OWB at 4 o'clock, under an untucked shortsleeve shirt. When it gets really hot here in OK, I wear a coolmax tank under my shirt, instead of a tshirt. To my knowledge, I've never been made carrying, even on a hot day with a big pistol.

G30 in a Comp-Tac Gurkha IWB year round, though in winter it's under a shirt-jacket or fleece buttondown or regular jacket and in summer, it's under a short-sleeve patterned button-down shirt. Hides just as well. A Concealed Carry Clothiers Tropic vest makes an occasional appearance too. :)

well, last summer all I had was the Beretta and my Kahr MK40. basically, I carried the Kahr 24/7, unless it was cool enough for a unbuttoned workshirt over my t-shirt. now that I have a 1911, I think that will get more use. it's not *that* much harder to conceal than the Kahr, thanks to the thinness. everything carried IWB at about 4:00.

I'm looking to either replace or augment the Kahr with a S&W 442 or somesuch, so I can just drop it in my pocket and go. the Kahr's a bit heavy for pocket carry.

NO. LaFrance NOVA 9mm in pocket, year round.

CB900F, if you can't find a NOVA (Custom made, out of print), look around for a STAR FireStar. It's based on the NOVA, slightly larger, heavier due to the steel frame, but still fits in the pocket of my jeans. Also out of print, but seen at times at gun shows.
