Warne Rings Don't Work on Savage 93

So I got some Warne 30mm rings for a scope I got for my Savage 93R17 and they won't fit.....or more precisely, the rings will not tighten down onto the factory scope mounts that come with the Savate 93. I can torque them down as far as I dare yet the scope will rattle around as the rings do not tighten.

Is this an issue with the scope bases that come with the Savage or will the Warne rings not work on anything but a picatinny rail? I would have thought they were all the same, but it appears not.

Should I get some different scope bases?

Also,...Initially I couldn't get my reticle to go down far enough, so I put a shim on the back mount, then took it back out and discovered that I couldn't get the reticle to go to the left enough. And I'm talking by quite a lot. A good 10 inches at 100 yards. This scope was on an AR before and was just fine.

Any comments about this? I'm stumped. :-/

When fitting scopes I will "zero" the scope. That is, set windage
and elevation in the middle of their adjustment, this has the
crosshair optically centred with least chance of abberation or
parrallax.
I fit the bottom half of rings to the gun and lay the tube in it and
"boresight", if it's too far left or right I will swap the rings front
to back, or 180 degrees (one screw left and one right, ie) to get
it as close as possible. Then put the top halves on and nip
them up, slack the mounts and torque the top, then torque the
mounts, boresight again then start shooting.
Normally goes good.

Oh, and yeah, rings need to grip bases, if they don't fit, they're wrong.

Warne makes scope bases for this rifle. Should I get them? I would think that their bases would match their rings. Or should I get different bases....which, in that case,...I'm out the money I spent on THESE rings. :-/

Yup, Vertical split. I did search them. never dealt with them personally.
All the theory remains the same. Except my advice about nipping up the scope, then the bases.
Looking at Warne's diagram I would aim for an equal gap (Feeler gauges) top and bottom. (Same as I would look for in horizontal rings, left - right)
If They still do not grip then there is something wrong. A set of vernier calipers should show up the discrepancy.

Just re-re-reading your OP. Basics first. Do you have a 30mm tubed scope? Or is it 1, 11/64" or something equally imperial?

First, did you follow warnes instruction and tightened the bottom screws first?
They actually require quite a bit of torque to hold tight, but usually it's the scope that's loose.

If you can measure them, how wide are your scope bases. If all that's in spec I'd probably go straight to warne. I've never had a problem with them, but I've contacted them for other random stuff and they have always been helpful.

I did tighten the bottom ones first. And I've never had an issue with Warne rings either. In fact, I have some QD Medium Warne rings which attached to the scope rails just fine.

No issue now. I sent them back and put different rings on. They tightened down quite nicely. Not sure why the Warne wouldn't, but now I will have to see if the reticle will line up straighter.

I would contact Warne. Get the word from the horse's mouth. They made them, they should b able to solve your problem either with advise or replacements.

So,....the saga continues. The scope I had put on it.....the one I couldn't get the crosshairs to move far enough,...turns out that the scope is broken. Took it to Bass Pro to have them bore sight the scope, and the reticle barely moves. I'll have to get a new scope.

I know you all will want to know,.....I was using the [no longer carried] Bass Pro branded "Oculus" scope.

Thinking about going with a Leupold VX-3i.
