I just got several thousand rounds of pmc 45acp and when inspecting them, they're separating inside.

If ya look close you can see where it's coming apart.I found about 10 in the first 200 rounds.Someone had posted about this on the cz forum.but this my first personal experience.

it's separating along the rt side, looks kinda like a moon.I'm gonna cut the cas a lot shorter on one and try to get a btter photo.

new photos

the above is a normal pmc case,no separation

This one is coming apart

i just had a good look-see at some of my 45 acp pmc brass, and it looks ok - so far.

thanks for the warning to remain vigilant, though...

Wow, that just plain sucks.

Looks like brass to send back for a refund....

Supposedly once fired.Just bought the brass,it is the best looking once fired I've ever bought-never would have noticed if they wouldn't have been cleaned so well.I've found about forty pieces so far.I found one where it looks like the outside is giving up,about 1/4 up the wall.

Just went and checked some of the pmc brass that I bought new and know it's only once fired and found 2 in the first 8 cases. On some of them you have to look really close with a flash light and you can see where they're startin to split. If you don't have all the powder cleaned out-it's gonna be difficult to see on some.

No,it's a different one,I'm up to about 100 now.I checked some of the last batch you and me bought and have found some in it-ya might want to look.I'd never notcied if the brass i bought wasn't cleaned so good.I checked my 9mm pmc and it's fine.

Ok stupid ?The guy I bought the brass from resizes on a dillion 1050.This brass was sized,decapped,etc..Could the resizing be causing any of it?

PMC

I'll check it. Be about my luck to have 6,000 rounds of once-fired brass for my new lot and it be defective...

On the upside...I finished with that Nork just before dark. This one about whipped my old skinny...but I finally got the fit where I want it.

I'll bring a bunch up there to ya when I bring the nork. There was bunch of good brass, some I'm not too sure about-wanna test it?:)

The brass in question may have been fired in a full auto gun, or some other gun with a "generous" chamber to accomodate feeding. I've seen .45 brass bulged to the point of almost bursting from being fired full auto. I've also seen this in .45 brass that was fired in a Glock, or other guns with large chambers or unsupported chambers, especially if it was full power ammunition.

PMC has always produced brass that was among the thickest in .45 acp, so before condemning the brass, I'd like to know the history of it, and what it was fired in before you got it.

Hope this helps.

Fred

bs32...I'm afraid it wouldn't be his chamber as he just bought this stuff and was just inspection it before loading it. It came from a retaler like that...

Tuner,I crossed sectioned some cases, some that were obviously splitting and some that just looked a little weird. The ones that were splitting, truly were, the ones that were kinda suspect appeared ok after cutting them apart-it's almost like two distinct marks from the extrusion process or however they make em.The stuff for the nork didn't come today, but I'll bring samples and a couple of the cutaways.Fred is right.that is some thick brass near the bottom.

Headspace

>I think you might have a headspace problem.<
*************************************

Headspace issues sith straight-walled pistol cases usually show up as bulged brass ahead of the web. These look like they're actually cracked...which leads me to believe that brittleness is the cause.

bs32...Check your PMs.

I was thinking about touching base with you and seeing what we could do over the next couple weekends after I get this one behind me. Been a little nuts at the Keller homestead.
