I have had a Lyman Turret press for years and have always noticed one of the six holes doesn't line up with the ram. I am now heavy into reloading and need to use all six holes. I called and was told with out a receipt they can't do anything. I sent the turret in to see what there official response would be since this is obviously a manufacture defect and could in no way have been done with use or abuse. I called and keep getting told it's being evaluated, it's so obvious.
I own other of there presses, two of the electronic scales, beam scale, dies and on and on.
Has anyone else had a problem or been told even a manufacture defect has to be evaluated?

IMO, they are pretty "cheap" if they are "nickel-&-diming" you about something that is obviously a flaw that was there at the time of production.

Easy answer is: just tell them you will consider switching all your reloading equipment to another manufacturer in the near future and whenever you need new equipment and you will stop recommending their product to all your shooting buddies.

I bet you see a new one on your porch within two weeks, if not sooner.

If you Don't, then follow-through with your "promise."

From reading reloading posts for several years I get the distinct impression Lyman customer service is sorely lacking. RCBS and Dillon have always been superior. Something to think about when ordering new equipment.

The problem is the 3 hole or 4 hole turrets cost more to ship back for warranty than to buy new ones. I'd just wait for Midway or someone to run them on sale and buy a new one. I had the same problem, the 3 hole turret was machined off to one side. It wasn't but a few thou. but would cost more to send back than to fix so I chucked mine in my lathe and cleaned it up on one side. I works fine now.

$42.99 at midway plus $9.44 shipping which is strange because it only cost me $5.30 to mail it back with delivery conformation. About the same distance.
The point it's obviously a manufacture defect there should be no questions just replace it. My opinion anyway.

I avoid anything from Lymann like the plague. Friend of mine had the carbide insert for 357 mag come out of the die. Called Lyman about it and was told sorry but it's your problem now.

I bought a Lyman lubrisizer kit on sale from Midway last year. The top punch rubbed agains the top of the sizing die, indicating the ram and the die were out of alignment. I called and they said send it back in, which I did at my expense. They took a new body and put all my parts on it and sent it back. I thought that was interesting: rather than just grab one off the shelf and send it they went to the trouble to take mine apart and reuse the pieces. I know they were mine because it was full of a stinky homemade bullet lube and the parts came back with the same stinky stuff on them.

So I did OK with their customer service, but then again it was a brand new product and I obviously had a receipt showing that. My concern is that a product with such an obvious and crucial defect made it out the door. Surely there's a way to quickly test a press or sizer for alignment before shipping?

I always liked Lyman, but I fear that shipping sloppy products isn't the best way to compete with the other makers.

45Frank -
If you'll unscrew the big nut in the center, the turret will lift straight off. What makes the turret stop in position is a spring which pushes on a ball bearing, buried in the body of the press. This plunger system is what's called a "detent". The detent engages a precisely placed divot on the underside of the turret. So the ball pops up into the divot at the correct time. Any trash, grease, metal chips, etc inside the divot will throw the location way off.

The place to start is by removing the turret, cleaning the surfaces, divots, spring and ball, adding clean lubricant, and reassembling. I bet your issue goes away.

I tried all of that and this has been going on for a while I just never used to use that one hole. I take it apart pretty frequently to clean a oil. Thank you though.

No worries came home today to a fed ex package with a new turret today. No letter no nothing so I'm happy.:)
