...Slapped a cheap, $39.00 BSA 3-9X50 with crosshairs & a lighted dot from Sportsman's Guide on a Cheaper Than Dirt siderail mount, in steel NC Star mediun height rings. I've replaced the issue buttstock with the Dragunov-type buttstock from a WASR 2, to raise my eye to the scope. This setup was shooting 1.5" 100 yard groups with the black-box Wolf HP loads! I then tried the Winchester 123gr SPs, and was disappointed to find they shot a foot higher, and spread out to almost 6"! I guess I'll stick with the cheapies, and there'll be no problems with head shots this deer season...

So much for the 'WASRs are innacurate' BS as far as I'm concerned...

Good to know. I will be setting mine up soon with a scope for deer season.

:)

1.5" 100 yard groups. Not many battle rifles can do that. Definitely not my AKs and FALs, but i only shoot them with open sight. My ARs with scope can do it if I do my part.

In your states, do you have to use a certain capacity mag while hunting w/ your AK's?? I've never hunted w/ a rifle here in SE Va.

I'm pretty sure it is 5 rounds.

You guys are killing me! I have been looking to replace my old collection ( had a Legend and a Norinco, had to sell 'em before I escaped Massachusetts:barf:);and I saw some sweet deal son a couple of Rommies ( and 1 Arsenal RPK!!) a week ago in Woburn when I was helping a friend shop at 4 Seasons...poverty sucks!!!

this is interesting, please if you can next time photo your results and add to this thread I did.

my experience with 2 AK's and the cheaper Russian was that it produced very huge groups and shifted point of impact compared to Fiocchi and Winchester ammo.

I have some Golden Bear ammo that I plan on trying soon to include the the thread.

Im sure a scope helps make better groups yet showing the results I got that day even with iron sights ammo brand makes a huge difference in a Kalashnikov

My wife's WASR gives 6 inch groups at 50 yards, not to mention 100 yards. Subgun accuracy, but she love it, never going to be fired by her over 25 yards, anyway.

That Is the Most Inexpensive String Of Hardware

I have ever heard of that can shoot better than 8" groups. Let me get this straight - you picked the cheapest AK, the cheapest side rail, the cheapest optic, and the cheapest ammo that US dollars can buy and you can hit a 5" target at 100 yards (much less a small group0? That is nearly beyond belief. If it is true, I would not sell that gun for 1000.00. Nor would try to "upgrade" any peice of that setup. Congratulations!:barf:

1.5 inch groups out of a kalashnikov at 100yds really is hard to believe. How many shots where in that group and how many groups did you try?

98c5, Do you know if you can block a 10rounder? I don't have any 5rd mags

I don't think so. At least I haven't seen one. I will just buy some 5 round mags online.

I sighted in my WASR10 today with wolf. At 25yrds it shoots 1" or less, at 50yrds it shot 2.75" , and way out at 100yrds it hit paper:D but a whopping 6" group. I need to get a frt sight tool to raise the pin, as all my shots were high.

First, I was slow-firing 3-round groups, and keeping the barrel cool as I could. After all, I'll be shooting a cold shot in the woods...

My WASR is a late model with the chrome-lined barrel, and Tapco trigger. Both the Wolf and Winchester bullets mic'ed .309 at the case mouth, and of course I was shooting from a bench, off a precision rest. The whole object was to see what the best case accuracy potential was. As far as the group size goes, my buddy and I were astounded, having expected something more like 4" or so.

I also believe much of the WASR's accuracy issues revolve around those hideous iron sights they come with. At least I know what the rifle is capable of, and now will work on my group size from real-world hunting type shots.

Fired one quick group of ten rounds to empty my mag after sighting in, and the group opened up to 3.5". I have a couple of five-round mags for hunting I ordered from CDNN. I think they were about $10.00 each.
