Hello guys...

i'm not sure if this is old or i just make the discovery of the year :what: BUT i just find out that the Wasr-10 "DO have a bolt catch" just like a Saiga and AR-15 ;), so here's the story....

Once upon a time... (joking :neener:)

Now, here's the thing, it is not visible but it's do-able.

Instuctions:

Make sure the gun is unloaded and follow all the safe rules!

Pull the bolt all the way back then press the trigger, it will make a sound like a trigger reset, then let the bolt go forward slowly untill it stop, at this point the bolt catch is engage like the picture bellow

pict0919ou6.jpg

and to release it just pull the bolt all the way back again without toching the trigger.

NOW, if you need help doing it let me know and i'll go over it with you, and if you guys want i can post a "How To' Video.

edit: Here's a video

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AeWa0fKOpA0

1. move the bolt all the way back
2. with the bolt back (all the way) hold the trigger back too
3. at this point you can let the bolt go forward (slowly) untill it stop (you may or may not hear a click)

it doesn't matter if you tap it for force the bolt forward, once it catch it wont go forward unless you bull the bolt back again.
i hope it help!

I think this is just resistance on the bolt by the fire control group. My WASR-10 does the same thing if I ride the bolt forward very slowly. But if you pull back and let it go, it just slams forwards.

Can I join the party?

Hey the scratch from the safety selector, is that common on all AK type rifles? Can it be avoided?

Yeah, my WASR-10 does that as well. If i slightly tap the bolt handle, it slams forward, Also will slam forward when the trigger is pulled. (Make sure its unloaded!)

I was actually wondering if there was a way to get rid of this "feature". heh.

Woah, i just noticed your username is "HOSS". hehe cool.

That mark from the safety switch is common from all the pictures ive seen. I'm not sure if it can be avoided. Maybe if you put a really durable coating on your rifle, but it would probably still appear after awhile i bet.

Pretty much any AK will have that score line from the safety on it after some use. The only way I can think of to avoid it would be to use some kind of finish that bonds to the metal of the receiver and is harder than the metal used in the safety.

I was thinking you could always leave it on FIRE, but maybe that wouldn't be such a great idea, lol.

My Arsenal slr-106 does the same thing. It does not stay back though (only catches oh so slightly). It is the bolt catching up on the hammer me thinks.
I think the safety selector of the ak rifles scratch the finish. I have seen numerous photos of that and my Arsenal does the same thing (crappy finish). I think to avoid this is by very gently lifting on the lever and moving it up and down that way, it can be done.

Some AK's have a notch in the bolt carrier that will allow the hammer to hold the bolt back. This is pretty common on Romanian guns.

i know what you mean... but NO, try to do it and... if you get it right (need practice) even if you tap it or press the trigger it will not go forward, plus you wont be able to press the trigger unless you pull the bolt back again

Well, I didn't know that some could hold the bolt back.
I guess ya learn something everyday!

The scratch can be avoided. On the back of the safety lever you can see the little protrusion that causes the scratch. When you have your rifle disassembled swing the safety lever all the way up so you can get at the back of it. Take a file and very lightly take the point off of it, but not so much that it won't engage the notch it is supposed to sit in. You can also take the file and lessen the angle slightly on the notches so the safety will swing easier.

That is not a bolt catch that is the bolt hanging up on the hammer, this is common problem with new rifles fitted with the g2 fcg. After breaking in the rifle the problem will go away.

Both my WASR-10 and WASR-2 do it. My WASR-2 has the G2 trigger while the WASR-10 does not. The WASR-10 is 4K rounds and counting and it continues to hang up on the hammer. Honestly, I like it. It serves a purpose and that is as a bolt catch.

Great, you guys are gonna make me break out my Saiga conversion. Hold on...

Nope, doesn't do it. No 'trigger reset' sound. It does meet resistance from the hammer, but continues forward.

I think that 'trigger reset' could be the disconnector doing it's job so the gun doesn't go full auto.

Why don't you take off the top cover and see what's going on in there?

My only AK clone a Norinco NHM 91 does the same thing. The bolt carrier is just hanging up on the hammer.

As for saving the finish from the "line". It's as easy as stringing a short peice of mono filimant fishing line between the reciever and saftey lever. Of course that makes the saftey's operation silent as well.... :)

hey guys.. you are not following me...i know that sometimes the wasr get a little sticky, but that's not the situation here....like i say before, it needs practice,

1. move the bolt all the way back
2. with the bolt back (all the way) hold the trigger back too
3. at this point you can let the bolt go forward (slowly) untill it stop (you may or may not hear a click)

it doesn't matter if you tap it for force the bolt forward, once it catch it wont go forward unless you bull the bolt back again.

I read your instructions and was like mine almost does it but I thought I'm going to try it and what do you know IT WORKED thanks for the tip

Interesting. I got it to work on my AES-10B after a few tries. But I think a notched safety is a little easier.

This is an old trick , it works better with a full auto trigger group , some old Sgt showed it to me during our first trip to the sandbox many years ago .
