I know that the WASR rifles have a bad reputation almost everywhere, but I am looking at expanding my collection, and I would like something that is cheap and fun to shoot.... so I have a few questions for people who have owned one or have at least shot them, not just replies like "I have heard that..." So, I ask these questions... 1. How is the accuracy as compared to a 7.62 ak? Is the surplus Russian ammo reliable? I'm guessing yes. And do the 5.45 WASR's have any reliability issues such as feeding problems?

Also what is your impression of your 5.45 ak in general? Do you like it better than the 7.62? I already have a SAR-1, but I really am interested in a 5.45.

Thanks in advance guys!

I have never heard of a wasr-2 in my life. Only wasr 10

Do you own a Glock 7 by any chance?:barf:

I'm not sure I'd say WASR guns have a "bad" reputation.
They used to. The WASR 10 were known to have problems with canted gas tubes and front sights but later versions seem better made.
I have a WASR 10 and although it is nOT pretty it shoots and is accurate enough for what it is.
I suspect the gun in that picture will be ugly. I also suspect it will work.

That is what I thought too. I think I will take my chances, this gun will be mainly for my girlfriend anyway. She always says that she wishes she could go shooting more often, but every time I take her, she is too afraid to shoot anything but the AR-15. So maybe if I get her a 5.45, she will like that even better. (plus, then I will get more range time with the AR)

I have never seen metal 5.45 mags. I want them if I get this rifle.
The Romanians and Poles produced them.

The Poles originally used steel for their Tantal mags, and then transitioned to polymer for the remainder (and majority) of production.

The Romanians never produced a polymer 5.45x39 mag for their military, and AFAIK, produce steelies to this day.

The Polish models are less available than the Romanian here in the USA. Both tend to be kinda rare.

I've heard very good things about current-production models of the WASRs. From what I've gathered, they have very light Tapco G2 triggers (My WASR-10 has a very light tapco trigger, but I think the take-up is a little long and it has a bit too much over travel), chrome-lined and hammer forged barrels. These are two very desirable features which are rarely found on military surplus rifles. Polish tantals and Yugo M70s, for instance, do not have chrome lined barrels.

If you need an AK-74, I'd recommend highly. My next gun on my "list of guns I'd like to own at least once in my life" is a WASR-2, right before the Ruger P95 and the Armscor 1911-A1

Thanks for the replies, guys. I appreciate it, and if the P 95 is anything like the P 89, GET IT. I love my P 89!

Au contraire, mon ami.

Polish Tantals DO have chrome lined barrels.

Make sure you buy from a vendor who DID NOT get theirs from Century. Century discards the original military chrome-lined and hammer forged barrels (no matter what condition they're in [which is a shame, as the Polish Tantal kits that came in had beautiful original barrels]) and uses US made barrels, which are NOT chrome lined.

GUN SNOB ALERT!!!!

Here is my WASR-2. Love it and ammo is pretty cheap. I pay $5 for 30rds at my LGS. Much more accurate than my friends WASR-10.

Zack, here is proof that it actually exists. Maybe you should do a little research before you make a jackass of yourself.
