It is:
10 , 2 , 4.
I'm a Pepper, she's a Pepper and you and can be a Pepper too!
Yeah I know that dates me, still back then we didn't worry about some stuff folks worry about today.
We did not go where trouble was, evaded if trouble showed up, and dealt with trouble if we had no other choice.
Bottled water and Cokes (Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Royal Crown (RC) Dr. Pepper, 7-Up...) came in glass bottles.
Not plastic - glass.
Original Coke in 6 1/2 oz bottle was 5 cents. I do not care what Coke says, this Cola today is not the same.
Cokes went to a dime <gasp>.
Point being, folks were raised right, and knew about being responsible for themselves, even kids, that were not big enough to carry a gun.
Kids carried knives, as one was not dressed until that knife went into the pocket of a boy or girl, / Lady or Gent.
Kids were parented and mentored, they knew knife safety, and they knew not to do knife fights and avoid.
Yes, some knife tips were shared to kids, as another tool in the tool box.
"Stick beats knife" was parented and mentored to kids.
Distance was a friend and anything can be used to stay safe.
Milk was delivered to the home in glass bottles.
In elementary school milk was in little glass bottles too.
Later milk was in a waxed cardboard containers, like some orange is today.
Half pint, pint, quart and half gallons.
Elementary school:
Kids with teachers, the principal, asst principal, school nurse, some parents, cops, folks in military or had been parented and mentored kids.
Mats were used, and back then, metal lunch boxes with a little metal thermos was used for sandwiches, fruit for a kids lunch as was a brown paper sack.
Grease pencils, soft rubber hoses, cardboard "bats" and erasers used to erase a chalk board.
Erasers will get chalk on a person...
Adults would share all sorts of stuff to keep that eraser for instance , as it left a "chalk mark" to show how all sorts of stuff could be used to keep a kid safe.
Pretending that eraser was a knife...
Metal lunch boxes, paper lunches, banana, apples, milk bottles, milk cartons, books, notebooks, "bat", "stick" ( like a broom) ...
"Open your mind kids, anything can be used to hurt you, and anything can be used to keep you safe".
I entered the first grade in 1961.
We did not have Water Bottle as SD tool option as it did not exist.
We had other options...always have, still do, always will.
