Water Bottle as SD tool

The "Klean Kanteen" sounds good...

Why is the sports cap made of plastic and not stainless steel?
Your teeth. We chose polypropylene #5 because it has no known leaching characteristics and is softer if you hit a bump on the trail. If you’d rather avoid plastic altogether, a stainless steel screw on lid is available as an accessory.

The steel screw-on lid sounds like it would round out an impressive package. Especially if someone else's teeth, and not yours, are on the line...

Sure, a water bottle could be used.

The thing is, pretty much anything can be used for SD. A lamp, a heavy book, almost anything.

I think I would be more comfortable carrying a roll of quarters as a fist pack, though.

Hard polycarbonate will give you cancer now. A litre of water weighs a bit over a pound. A pound weight applied to the nose or side of the head will get your attention.

I'm a Pepper, she's a Pepper and you and can be a Pepper too!

Yeah I know that dates me, still back then we didn't worry about some stuff folks worry about today.

We did not go where trouble was, evaded if trouble showed up, and dealt with trouble if we had no other choice.

Bottled water and Cokes (Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Royal Crown (RC) Dr. Pepper, 7-Up...) came in glass bottles.
Not plastic - glass.

Original Coke in 6 1/2 oz bottle was 5 cents. I do not care what Coke says, this Cola today is not the same.

Cokes went to a dime <gasp>.

Point being, folks were raised right, and knew about being responsible for themselves, even kids, that were not big enough to carry a gun.
Kids carried knives, as one was not dressed until that knife went into the pocket of a boy or girl, / Lady or Gent.

Kids were parented and mentored, they knew knife safety, and they knew not to do knife fights and avoid.
Yes, some knife tips were shared to kids, as another tool in the tool box.

"Stick beats knife" was parented and mentored to kids.
Distance was a friend and anything can be used to stay safe.

Milk was delivered to the home in glass bottles.
In elementary school milk was in little glass bottles too.
Later milk was in a waxed cardboard containers, like some orange is today.
Half pint, pint, quart and half gallons.

Elementary school:
Kids with teachers, the principal, asst principal, school nurse, some parents, cops, folks in military or had been parented and mentored kids.

Mats were used, and back then, metal lunch boxes with a little metal thermos was used for sandwiches, fruit for a kids lunch as was a brown paper sack.

Grease pencils, soft rubber hoses, cardboard "bats" and erasers used to erase a chalk board.

Erasers will get chalk on a person...

Adults would share all sorts of stuff to keep that eraser for instance , as it left a "chalk mark" to show how all sorts of stuff could be used to keep a kid safe.
Pretending that eraser was a knife...

Metal lunch boxes, paper lunches, banana, apples, milk bottles, milk cartons, books, notebooks, "bat", "stick" ( like a broom) ...

"Open your mind kids, anything can be used to hurt you, and anything can be used to keep you safe".

I entered the first grade in 1961.

We did not have Water Bottle as SD tool option as it did not exist.

We had other options...always have, still do, always will.

sm,

We also got to take our guns to school. At least I did.

Knives? Part of the Junior High and High School unofficial "uniform" for young men was a 4" Buck folder in a leather belt pouch.

Yes we took guns to school.
Heck the schools had BBguns, .22 rifles, and archery stuff for us to use!

This thread, I really hope is read by Fence Sitters and Anti Gun as I hope they read other threads similar.

1. Folks have a right to be safe.
It does not matter if they are pro, on the fence or anti, everyone has a right to be safe.

2. Life is life, and as such circumstances present themselves where one has to take responsibility for not going there, leaving if need be, or having to deal with something.
Again, it does not matter if one is pro, on the fence, or anti gun.

3. Pro folks continue to share experience strength and hope.
Fence sitters get informed and are able to investigate and verify.
Antis...they hit a bottom their butt won't bounce as all the stuff "that is supposed to keep them safe" , is not there, or will arrive fast enough, or...
So these things being read by antis - might reach someone.

Reaching one fence sitter, even one anti is a great thing!

The whole idea is that you carry something completely otherwise innocuous that you can have with you any time, anywhere, that no one would question what you were doing with it before or after you were forced to defend yourself using it.

except the secure area of an airport..... unless of course you bought a NEW one AFTER you cleared the check point....

I was JUST thinking about this.

I have one of these:

It's hard polycarbonate and weighs 2 lbs when full. Swing it by the loop and it's a hell of a punch.

Provided it isn't full or nearly full, especially if what is in it is forzen. If it is and it hits a hard surface with a moderate amout of force, the all might polycarbonate will break. (Trust me on this one.) And, getting smacked in the head with a mostly filled and frozen one does hurt quite a bit. (Also trust me on this one.)

Oddly enough, I started doing what others have suggested long ago. I double knot para cord under the flange of the neck then make a secure loop from there and use that to connect the bottle to the D-ring carabiner on my backpack instead of the plastic strap.

Filled to the top of the lip, a liter/quart Nalgene will be just under 3 lbs. I use one (plus 3 large washers) to gage the trigger weight of my CMP Rinfire Sporter guns to make sure they meet the minimum.

SM
Coke and other sodas used to be made with suar, and now they are made with corn syrup.
I am only fourteen, and have grown up in the corn syrup age, but some speciality manufacturers make root beer, cherry soda, grape soda, etc, with sugar, and it does taste better.
Stuff also tastes better out of a glass bottle, when cold.
The water bottle is a perfectly handy self-defense tool. I carry one at high school every day, and using it for SD has occured to me before.
I don't buy into this polycarbonate gives you cancer stuff.

Karate, judo or kick-boxing class seems to be more practical. A good si-fu teaches not only self-defense but also self-discipline.

I thought this was stupid at first, but now i might be changing my mind; especially a metal one.

and a rope dart? what on earth is that?

I'm considering making another sticky. It will read:

We do not order from Botach.

We do not order from Botach.

We do not order from Botach.

IF we do, we have been warned.

John

surprisingly I ordered twice from botach in the past month , couple pair of boots they had on clearance , 5.11 6" boots and diff brand of boots as well.

Trick with botach is to NEVER order on the web , CALL , this way you know if it is in stock. Both times I ordered and had my delivery in 1-2 days ( granted they are in Cali and I am in Vegas so shipping was fast ).

again...never order over the web from them.

LWG,

Actually, freezing one of these rugged water bottles won't make them harder. Water being an incompressible fluid when filling a bottle completely with no air space is as "hard" as it's going to get. Counterintuitive, but due to the incompressibility property, true.

On the other hand, freezing a standard water bottle might help.
