If you don't find the answer here, Remington is quite quick about answering emails about product questions, just be sure to specific.

Well, its a Super-magnum. Which means it is for the 3.5" shells. Which means that barrels for the standard 870 Magnum won't be any good, but the ones for the Super-magnum should.

Couldn't tell you about the dimples. But, they are not any trouble to remove anyway.

And, it is an 870. Nuff said in the quality/reliablility department.

However, I do regard the 3.5" chambering as useless. I rarely shoot 3" shells as it is. All I use my 870 for is defense.

Standard barrels are fine as long as you only use ammo approved for the barrel. I have a super mag and added an 18" barrel with no problems. Only issue is that I have to remember to only use up to 3" shells.

Funny, I got it new, unused for a discount specifically because the seller thought that he couldn't do just that. Oh, well...Live and learn.

You could just go for the marine magnum XCS model if you want a shorter barrel and the mag extension.
