Jim DeMint (GOA A rated candidate) won the Republican primary in a come-from behind victory over former Gov. Beaseley. This means that if South Carolina can put him in the Senate in November, we will have replaced the retiring GOA F rated candidate with a nice new A-rated Senator!

That will certainly be useful when the antis attempt a renewal of the ban in 2005 considering how close the vote was in March!

I crossed paths w/ DeMint back before he got into politics. As best as I can tell (along w/ friends who know him better than I), he's a stand-up guy. Let's hope he can defeat the demon-rats candidate Inez Tennenbaum.

DeMint did some great campaigning here in the Upstate of SC. I believe he'll do a hell of a job.

Let's just do whatever we can to help him beat Inez in November.

Wanted Condon,

but Demint will do over Weasly and definitely over Tenenbaum!

Problem is DeMint is a kool-aid drinkin' "Free Trader", a position he adopted after getting Roger Millikin's endorcement and money in his run for the house.

While he is a top tier GOA'er, I'm sure he'll have time to go shooting with all those textile workers who lost their jobs to the Chinese government.

Then if he is elected in November 2004 he get to explain to the good citizens of SC and other states on January 1, 2005 why another 100,000+ textile workers will lose their jobs when ALL trade restrictions against Chinese textile imports disappear. I guess than means DeMint will have even more range buddies.

I have a question: what good is a right if you can't exercise that right.

Reasons why makings things in the US costs more:

We'll leave out the fact that American workers get paid more-they're also more productive, to the point where they actually produce more per dollar they're paid than foreign workers.

Environmental regulations increase costs
OSHA regulations increase costs
Liability (lawsuit) insurance increases costs
Payroll taxes (Medicare and Social Security) increase costs
Complying with the vast thickets of federal, state, and local regulations increases costs
Paying lawyers and accountants to insure you don't violate annoyingly complex tax codes increases costs
Union monopolies on certain segments of the labor market (not just in SC, but in general) increase costs

Note the Democrat constituencies behind pretty much all of these items
