When you have them but don't need the extra spark.

My .357 plinking load is 158 lead over 3.8 gr of 700x.

I don't see why I can't use my CCI magnum primers with them.

What do you do with yours?

I use mine with #9 loads. You may use them in 300bo subsonic loads if you have one. I thought I would need them a lot more than I do, as i shoot mostly siholloette, which likes spp just fine.

I still have standard primers for non-magnum powder loads. That does not mean I wouldn't use magnum primers for non-magnum powder loads iffin' I didn't have them. From my experience, there isn't that much difference between them. I would be more concerned with using standard primers for magnum powders like H110/W296, at least in calibers with small case capacity like .357.

When I work up a load I start with what the tables say, at the starting load, then change components one at a time until I get something that works good in every gun for that caliber, that I “might” use for that purpose, and I can replicate easily from obtainable components. Sometimes that means I use a SRP in a below-starting charge pistol cartridge for plinking and sometimes it means I use a SPP in an over-max charge pistol cartridge for keeping in the desk drawer. It really depends. That’s why I tell people, don’t do what I do. It’s not going to work for you.
It also means I burn a lot of powder and primers just doing load development. So keep that in mind. ;)

I've been using them in 38 spl with 4.5 gr Unique under a 160 gr. bullet. Its fairly close to my old load of 4.6 gr Unique under a 158 gr bullet with a standard primer.

Is that a statement or ?

When I started in 2012 I knew nothing and accumulated a lot of cci spm primers since I wanted to load 357 magnum. Now after I found my favorite powders 2400 and unique I learned they could care less. I still kinda save for h110 or hs6 but my other loads could care less.

I put a "?" In the subject. :)

I use standard and magnum primers interchangeably in all my loads. I have tested all and compared them and not seen any difference in FPS, pressure signs etc... This is for what I load and your results may differ.

I did a comparison a couple years back in 9mm. The magnum primers gave me slightly more consistent results. Not enough to make the switch, but enough to use the magnums without hesitation if the standard primer supply is running low.
