found some primers :-(

A friend found some SPP at the LGS last month. They were older primers, probably sold on consignment. Limit 2 sleeves & $8.99 each.
Yesterday he scored some Winchester SPP at Midway for $79.99 (+hazmat +shipping = $105) Limit 1.

As primers keep going up for the reloaders, regular ammo is going to continue to go up also. It’s still going to be “cheaper” to reload. And even if it were all about the same, I’d still reload just because I enjoy it and I have flexibility in my loads.

It comes down to the point where it gets too expensive to keep shooting?????

The question is, if you're one of them folks who own an Enfield or Webley in 380/200 Revolver Mk I, do you just trash that antique and give it up or start handloading? Because you're not going to find a box of new production ammo on the shelf. Sure, you can maybe find a box or two of Remington "Wheel gun" .38S&W 145gr. 685fps loads and just aim high or file the sights but real 200gr. 620fps Mk.I lead or 180gr. 680fps Mk.IIz jacketed? Strictly handloader ammo.

So how much is it worth to be able to shoot those old guns that aren't running 9mmP or 5.56mm?

Thank your lucky stars that you’ve found ANY. They’re right up there with frog hair and hens teeth. Looks like even some of the stores that been hoarding for better prices are now running low on inventory. And like an earlier post from Stonebusret there a few people who buy everything on the shelf. I usually think it’s so that they sell it at their local gun show for an obscene profit. I’ll keep looking without paying $100 a brick. Just shooting less buy maintaining a steady reserve.

Gotta disagree with you Col. Harummp, sometimes these threads offer some good information or ideas. Several times I have personally benefited from knowledge OR opinions gleaned from comment. Let’s not shut a thread down just because we may not like a particular way someone expresses theirs. It’s

I've heard many say back off by a tenth to compensate for the hotter primer to get the same chrono results.... however, ive never been able to see that difference. Either my equipment isn't precise enough, or I'm not precise enough, or my mag. primers weren't hotter enough to show a difference. YMMV.
MY Crony doesn’t register enough difference in velocity to bother anymore. I still record all types of loading components for the rounds I build but I have stopped trying to differentiate changes in velocity for the different primers. I rely on grouping for accuracy. I find a good one and stick with it.

It is indeed time to close this thread.

Not because folks disagree with how someone expresses their opinion, but because several comments (since deleted) drifted into politics...which every member agreed not to do when they signed up for membership. I didn't issue any Warning Points in this instance, but if your post has been deleted consider that as a specific warning directed toward you.
