I'm considering buying either or both of these powders for my 264 WM. Anyone tried either WC 872 or WC 867 in a overbore magnum? My new custom has a 27" tube also.
I don't know what WC867 is but I do know WC860. As for WC872, that powder is close to H870 or AA8700 and is used for 20mm Vulcan Ammo. I'm sure that powder is way too slow for use in the 264 WM. WC860 is not much faster and originally used in 50 Cal ammo...
For your use I would suggest WC852 which is on the same lines as H4831... (IMO of course)
I'm not familure with that powder but I use H870 now discontinued ,and 5010 also discontinued.H870 has been listed for .264winmag with heavy bullets,I use it in 7mm mag78-80 grs of it.
I'v loaded Retumbo in 338rum with a flash in every round,I seen that powder on sale so if you dont mind filling the case, maybe compressing, you should be able to use it.It's one of the reasons I started using 870;it was 8.00 a lb. If you find it lacking, good excuse for 6.5 /7mm stw or 6.5rum with a 30 in bl.
I've shot a good bit of WC860 in the 6.5x55mm, with excellent results. With magnum primers it even left the bore clean as a whistle. These slow burners can leave a lot of unburned powder behind.
I just picked up some 872 of Widener's. I asked about this before and have really skirted around buying the stuff. Now that Ive read more its seems as though maybe it will be temp sensitive. Is this stuff cooler burning and are charges compressed? A few sources said that you couldn't get enough in a case to create pressure or speed of any sort.
