I have a Remington 870 that I plan on making my primary for home defense once it is ready. One thing it must have before it is bumped up to the A team is a tactical light.

I have a SureFire L4 and all I can say is “wow.” Some people think I am crazy to pay $160 for a flashlight that fits comfortably in your pocket, but I couldn’t be happier with it. With that being said SureFire was naturally the first place I looked for a tactical light for my shotgun.

I really like SureFire’s 618FGA model for the Remington 870. It has a pressure sensitive activation pad, a constant on/off rocker switch, and a system disable rocker switch so the light doesn’t turn on when you don’t want it to.

I wouldn’t mind paying the $300 for this model, however the only problem is it is not an LED. I would REALLY prefer any tactical light I own (especially one that will be exposed to the recoil of 00 buckshot) be an LED.

With that being said: any suggestions on a light for a Remington 870 that has the same features as the above described model but is an LED as well?

Any ideas, comments, opinions, or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You could buy an CREE LED buld for it. That is waht I am planning to do whe nI get my bezel back form warinty work. I have been running the CREE in my G2 for about six months and it is great, I get about 120-130 lumnes out of it.

I like the 918FA which is a 9v Millenium light which is twice as strong as the 6v. They DO make LED foreends now, but the 918FA is cheaper.

You can buy a Mounting Solutions picitiny clamp if you have an extended mag, OR a molded or Surefire Aluminum foreend with Pic rails . Either way Vltor makes a neat simple strong "Scout Mount" for your L4 that attaches to the pic rails. No wierd curly wires to hang up or cheasy glue on switches to fail AND you can take it off in seconds and have a flashlight and a good lighter daytime shottie. I have one on an 870 (and one with a 918 and one with a 618) and like it VERY MUCH.

For an 870 instead of the dedicated forend you might consider the Streamlight mount that fits under the magazine cap. It can be used with a variety of lights.

The advantages are you can use the forend of your choice, it can easily be removed if you want to use the gun for hunting or clays. I'm very happy with mine. Here's a thread with more info.
