I've been using this website as a source of reference for awhile. A lot of good info about the weapons used by the US and Communist forces during the Korean War.

Korean War Weapons

They also have a lot of good pictures, like this one:

These are captured North Korean weapons. From top to bottom, you've got a PTRD-1941 Anti-Tank rifle, a 7.62x54mmR DP machine gun, an Arisaka rifle, an M1944 Mosin Nagant, and a PPSch-41 "Burp Gun".

The author of the website seems to be one Bert Kortegaard, himself a veteran of Korea.

Essentially, the weapons used to fight the Korean war were largely the same as those used to fight World War II.

The SKS made an appearance, but not in very great numbers from what I can determine, and mainly in the hands of Chinese regulars.

Man this place is turning me into a geek  .

I don't think that is a M44, there is no bayonete hinge right in front of the front barrel band & behind the front sight hood. Probably a M38 instead. There is that thing sticking up partway down the weapon but I think it is a tuft of grass (like some of the others in the picture).

Yes it is a boring early Sunday morning around here if this is the most I have to worry about at this time :D .

Thanks for posting the link. I was always wondering just what role if any, that the SKS played in Korea. I recall seeing one episode of MASH, where a North Korean soldier was holding an SKS. I thought that Hollyweird had "got it wrong" again.

I seem to recall seeing an episode of MASH where a couple of the NK troops were carrying AK-47s minus the magazines. I chalked it up to Hollywierd not knowing/caring about guns.

I think a couple of the PTRDs were captured and rebarrelled in .50 BMG for long range sniping in Korea.

Rifles in .50 BMG have been around for longer than folks realize.

Many of the weapons used by the communist side were also stamped "Made in America." The Chinese used M1s, BARs, Thompsons, light and heavy machineguns, 60mm and 81mm mortars and 105mm Howitzers. These weapons came from the 2,000,000+ troops of Chiang Kai-shek that surrendered at the end of their civil war in 1949.
