I want to get a Weatherby Mark V Deluxe in .30-06. Some hunting and range play. I've just always loved the rifles - their beautiful wood and mirror polished bluing, and the old man had style and dared to be different. (I'd get the Ultramark but they only come in Weatherby calibers and this rifle is gonna be shot.)

Weatherby site says $2400 MSRP, and my question is whether or not this is the actual 'street price' for a new rifle.

Also any other comments or experiences with these rifles anyone has. Better to use Weatherby rings or another brand? etc....

Thanks!

GBW;

I'm not a Weatherby guy, don't own one. But, I'd be very surprised if I were to find out that's what you'd have to pay to get one. Very few things sell at MSRP these days, particularly firearms. Well, with the exception of F35's, but that's another story. There'd be no real advantage to Weatherby rings IMHO, there are several brands that would do at least as well. Talley is the first that comes to mind.

Just had my dealer place an order

for an Accumark and my price is to be $300 less than what is listed on Weatherby's website today.

As for optics, I use Leupold two-piece bases (the variety that has the windage adjustment in the rear base) and rings on pretty much everything... including my Weatherby's.

I had a Mark V in .30-06 years ago, and never should have sold it. That was a Fibermark. I also had the Deluxe, in .257 Wea Mag in the Deluxe model. I never experienced shifting zeros due to a bad stock seal. That finish is very functional. I also had the .270 Wea Mag, a .30-06 Sprg and a .300 Wea Mag in Fibermark. All were equally nice.

I finally decided to stay with synthetic. To that end, I bought a synthetic model, and decided to enhance it. I just got my "pig rifle" back. I have a Weatherby Mark V, .300 Win Mag. I installed a Bell & Carlson Medalist stock, a M1913 base, Badger extreme rings securing a Trijicon Accu-point 1-4 optic, and just this week, it came home with its new, dandy Williams Guide Series break.

I'm talking about a Mark V that will maintain genuine 0.75" three-shot groups at 100 yards, using Hornady "SuperFormance" 165 grain GMX ammo, and the Nightforce 3.5-15X56 optic. That's the deer scope. The Trijicon is for up close hunting, like boar. I've taken couple deer with this rifle now, and soon will take it for boar. Love the short bolt throw! Good luck on your selection, and let us know what you get.

Forty-some years ago I bought a German-made Weatherby Mark V in '06. 26" #2 profile barrel. I had to tweak the forearm bedding a bit. I installed a Canjar trigger.

It was always a sub-MOA shooter with handloads.

Heavy, but we travelled together over many and many a mile of desert mountain country. My two longest kills were at 350 and 450.

Back then, the retail was $350. :)
