I have gotten a lot of great advice from you guys. Thank you very much.

One more question I have is about Weatherby Orion. Is it true they are made by SKB? Everybody tells me SKB is pure quality that'll last a lifetime. Hell, I'm already 40, so it's just gotta last another 30 years.LOL

The one I'm looking at is marked made in Japan. This gun fits me like a glove!!!!!!!! It's not real purty, not that it matters, but the wood is kinda plain and the gold etching of ducks and pheasants aren't the greatest. Asking price at Gander Mtn is $1300.

Yes, I already know that Gander Mtn is over priced, but the two Orions they have are the only I have found anywhere in my area. I don't want to buy from an internet auction either. I actually want to see and handle a gun before I buy.

I still have my eye on a Franchi Veloce 20 gauge though.

Thanks a bunch guys. You've always been a big help!!!!!!

I can't recall right now if it's SKB or Miroku that makes the Orion. In either case, the Orion is a good shotgun.

Enjoy....

I have an SKB-made Ithaca. It's around 30 years old and, apart from a couple dings from use, it's like new. They ARE built well. The Orion is still the same gun, with a different stock and some cosmetic differences.

I also have a Weatherby Vanguard Sporter. It's a Howa gun, with Weatherby stock and aesthetics. I really like Weatherby's stock on a rifle, so I chose it over the Howa-branded similar gun.

What's my point? $1300 is a fair price, AFAIK. If the Weatherby stock fits you, go for it!

That's the stock SKB is selling under their own brand. It is different from the POW grip that Weatherby puts on the Orion. If you like the Weatherby version, I'd get it. If you think you'd like the SKB, you might pick up the plain-jane 505 for a fair amount less than $1300; the 585 will run you about $1300 also.
