I'm in the market for a new 12 gauge auto for doves and field use. unfortunatly my funds will be limited to a max of $500. I was looking at a mossberg 935 at walleyworld, but saw this weatherby sa08 with a synthetic stock for $449.00.

I know Weatherby was a rich mans gun at one time. I'm sure this gun is farmed out to someone else to make, but I liked the feel and looks.

Does anyone own one and can give me a real world review? I found some at the Guns and Ammo website and a couple of others, and they almost read like a press release. I did a search on THR but only found one response about getting one in 20 guage for his child.

I took one on trade for accounting work, and will admit I have been impressed with it. Mine has a wood stock - very nice wood too - but I've only shot about 300 rounds so far. No problems, and it will get a work out with sporting clays before dove season this September.

I dunno who makes it. I saw a lot of reasons to buy it that could be reasons not to buy it. Here is how the gas system works: The A302 / B-80 action has no way to adjust for pressure past the ports. The faster the bolt moves, the more wear and tear to the gun and the more shock and vibration to the shooter. The Weatherby solution is a simple, sensible one. All the SA-08 models have three inch chambers. You have a stainless steel piston marked “Light” and one marked “Heavy.

They are made in Turkey, they are tight-lipped about the actual manufacturer. They are essentially the same gun as the Mossberg SA-20 and a few others on the market under different names. They are a well put together gun, and Weatherby stands behind them 100%. Pretty much a Beretta clone. I wouldn't be afraid to own one.

Thanks, the Weatherby it is then. I love good wood and bluing on a gun, but with the black stock and forearm and the flat finish, I won't cringe going through some briar patches during rabbit season too like I have in the past.

Appreciate it!
