Debating between these two, both in a 30-06. The Browning is quite a bit more expensive, so far they both seem to perform very well from what I've read. Any input on either? Looking at the stanard Vanguard base model, the synthetic.

good rifles

both are great rifles, i would go to your local gun shop and see which one feels best in your hands and go with it

I haven't had any experience w/ the Vanguard but has head it is a pretty good gun for the money. I have experience with the Browning A-Bolt but in 7mm-08. The action was really smooth and nice. I can't say anything for accuracy as I was shooting at a paper plate at 200 yards off hand.

A-Bolt if you can afford it.

The 60 degree bolt uplift--magazine system and shotgun safety make it a MUCH more user friendly rifle.
