Weaver scope for varmit rifle...

Looking for a scope for a varmit rifle and I have decided that I want to try a weaver. I know a couple prople that are happy with them. So, while looking, I came across three that have caught my eye. They are The Grand Slam, Classic V and the 40/44. Looking at a scope that is at least 4.5x14 and above. Also want it to have an AO.

Give me experiences or make recommendations...........
 
The Grand Slams are superb scopes for the money, I also have a Classic Extreme (30mm tube) that is very nice. I use a 6.5-20 Grand Slam on my long range rifle and could not be happier.
 
I totally agree with the above; I love the t 36's, and the grand slams are most excellent scopes, using japanese glass, and maybe parts or assembly as well.
the 40.44 scopes, their newest line, seems to have some really great stuff for the price as well, tough to beat. But If I had my druthers, i would do the varmint line, or the grand slams. Just fabulous.
or you could get one of the 40.44's, and give us a report.
 
Weaver: two thumbs up

I have a Classic v10 mounted on my Winchester Featherweight in 243. No complaints. As a matter of fact, I'm very impressed with the quality at the price point.
 
I have a Weaver Grand Slam 6.5-20 on my .22 and could not be happier. This is a very nice scope. If I have one complaint it seems to be a little limited in elevation adjustments, I had to shim the scope in order to get a zero @ 200yds. I would think for a varmint rig the elevation adjustments would be just fine. Most of the guys that I shoot .22's with have all shimed their scopes, some of which are Leupolds and Bushnells. The Weaver is a great scope espically for the money.

weavers are good scopes but might want to look a nikon buckmaster 4.5-14 w/side focus and mil dots. great scope 299.99

At the $300 price point, the weaver is a better scope, IMO.

In order of highest cost to benefit/quality ratio for sub-$1k scopes, I would rank as follows:

Weaver
Burris
Nikon
Leupold

The Nikon Buckmaster or Leupold Rifleman or VX-I, as examples, are great scopes. But in the $250-ish price range, I think the Weaver is a better scope. But when you step up into the Nikon Monarch or Leupold VX-III's, it's a different animal.
 
I have a couple of 6-20 Grand Slams on target/vamint rifles and find them to be very good scopes, and the micro-trac adjustments are spot-on. I also have a few 3-9 classics and like them very well. I had a V-24 and did not like it. It wasn't clear at all at higher powers. I've never owned a V-16 but have always heard good things about them. The T series are superb scopes.

I've got 3 V24's, 1 V9, and 1 V3. My only complaint is with the V24's. The crosshair is a little wide for target shooting. I haven't tried them yet but I think the Grand Slam would be a little better for me than the V24.

I have a Nikon 5-20 Monarch to compare them against and it is clearer but cost about $200 more.

Sorry for the off topic but does Weaver fix their older models made in Texas still? I got a V8 that need a little TLC.
 
I've owned nothing but Leupold for scopes on my rifles. About 6 years ago I tried a Weaver 24 Target on a rifle and was very pleased. I was so happy with the performance that I now own a second, the same scope in 36x. No problems to report in 6 years of use on either one of these.
 
Love my V16 on my ISSI AR 223 AI/TK Lee reticle for long-range coyotes. Here's a 557 yarder from couple weeks ago--

I had a T24 that was a very good scope for the money. The target dot is very, very small, so wouldn't be a good hunting scope, but the tracking was spot on, and held zero.:)
 
those 40.44's are supposed to be a kinda of do it all/ hunting/varmint/target type scope. So above dude, give us some more detail on it; hows fit/finish, how does the dials move, can you shoot the square, how is it in diff temps, etc.?
 
I'd always figured that Wever was another one of those great old brands that'd gone to hell years ago. Then I bought a used AR that came with a V-16. I was immediately impressed by the scope, decided it was too good for that AR, and mounted it on my CZ 527 Varmint.
It's a great scope for the money, and I would and have recommended it to friends and family looking for a scope in its price range.
