I've found plenty of reviews online but I trust the folks here a THR more than anything, so...

I'm interested in getting a Weaver T36 (36x fixed power), my intent will be to put it on a CZ 527 Varmint (.223 Remington). Its primary (if not exclusive) purpose will be for 100yds shooting, purely recreational, to try and get as small groups as possible.

Can anyone offer any advice as to the quality of this scope, for this purpose?

Thanks!

I use an old T24 for all of my new load workups, no matter what rifle. Once the workup is done, I install the scope that I will leave on the rifle. It is clear and the adjustment is spot on. I would assume a T36 would be the same.

36x is an awful lot of power.

Unless it is bolted to a 30 pound bench-rest rifle.

Think of your heart-beat / pulse tremors magnified 36 times while trying to settle the cross hairs!

I have 2, one with a dot and one with plain x-hairs, for informal rimfire benchrest. I like them a lot.

Here's one on a CZ American in .22 WMR. I bought the rifle used and wanted to see how it shot.

I had a T24, but it was sold on a rifle. The exit pupil is so small, that you had to be perfectly in line behind it, to see through it. Other then that, I had no complaints...
Tracked well, clear image, AO worked well, but boat loads of mirage because of the high power.

I have one, and it's a very nice scope for target shooting. I imagine you will like it, unless you find you just don't like high power in a scope, and some people don't.

Yes, the FOV is smaller, but for targets it doesn't matter. Yes, eye placement is more critical, but again, you have plenty of time at the bench, and you are going to adjust out the parallax anyway. Mirage is always there, whether your scope "sees" it or not. If you can see it, you can correct for it, or at least wait until it calms down. Mirage is like the wind, if you pick all your shots when it is the same, the bullets will go to the same place.

I have had three different T36's. Great scopes, all of them were excellent, tracked well, and had clear optics and good range of eye relief.
