I never thought a dem would say the things he did - and I DON'T know his voting history (should check that out i suppose) but his WORDS (politicians words mind you) were wierd comming from somone in the congress that has a 'D' in front of thier name

Still find it irriating - the brief news bit after the monday night football game (GREEN BAY WON! WOOOT) specifically said "weapons that only the military could get" <sigh> Made no mention of the fact that i "guess" the military really needed bayonett lugs... etc etc.

Also - on the video - they are wont as usual to show footage of that thing that happened in california.... didn't that happen w/ wepaons that were banned in 1934????? (correct me if i'm wrong pls)

at any rate - i thought the vid was decent... didn't say too much wrong.

For the average media station, even that limited form of truthful news is very very rare. Good sign, though.

I told ya. Democrats are generally coming around. The overwhelming majority think guns are pretty much a non-issue. Yes, criminals with guns are bad and criminals shouldn't get access to them. I have a feeling the overwhelming majority would think the AWB was stupid if the technical details were laid out in a simple manner.

I do love saying "The assault weapon ban WAS stupid." Feels so much better than saying "The assault weapon ban IS stupid."

The local newschannel here is gainesville did a short bit on the AWB sunset, I was in the gun store at the time they were doing their interviews and watched bemusedly as the owners pulled a pre-ban Colt AR15 down and a Bushmaster post-ban and pointed out the cosmetic changes and that the Bushmaster was legal for sale before monday.

Then when the bit came on the news the video was very well done - none of the breathless liberal handwringing about the flood of assault weapons on the street I expected.

The GPD captain they interviewed really impressed me, I thought for sure he was going to be the foil to the gun store owner and come out talking about copkillingbullethoseoozieaykayfurtysevun but instead

"Most of those weapons operate in the same way as most hunting weapons that folks use. They just look different. And because they look like military guns, I think that that makes them a little bit more of a target because of how they appear. But, as far as how they function, they function the same as weapons that are used for hunting," says Captain Van Winkle.
