Went to the local gun show this weekend (The first one all summer around here) and went slightly nuts adding to the S&W collection:

All (except the Model 14) came with their original numbered grips. The 14 got target grips that were in our own stock.

My son and I took all of them to the range Sunday and fired all of them and they all performed perfectly.

These pictures were taken today after complete disassembly and cleaning/waxing.

Nice pieces. You may have gone a little nuts (just a little), but those are some beautiful finds! I especially like that 2 1/2" model 19.

That 19 is sweet. Isn't that kinda early for a roundbutt? I know they made 'em in that era (1970s gun?) but they weren't very common?

Very nice Smiths there. I've been eyeing a few of those models lately. Maybe someday

I came away with a 1935 Mosin 91/30. The Russian bug has bitten me :D

Jim, Good question!

This 19-3 is, according to the SCoSW, made in 1975 (S/N 8K864XX). P.137 of SCoSW (2nd Ed.) states "round butt available on 2-1/2-inch version only".

HTH

Beautiful collection. If I had any extra cash, I'd likely come out of a show with weapons like those also.

Very nice Ron!
I, too, am envious of that Model 19! Avoid 125 grain ammo with it, OK? It's way too nice to crack the cone in!

I've been hoping to find a Hong Kong Model 10 too!

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one to occasionally come home with several guns!

XavierBreath,

Don't worry about that! - I already have been down that road last year::uhoh:

I bought a 4" 19-5 from a pawn shop for $300 and when I got home and cleaned it I found the forcing cone was cracked under the soot. As always all sales are final at the pawn shop. :(

But it came out well, because I called S&W and asked if they could fix it. They sent out a pickup tag and off it went to them. After 2 weeks their gunsmith working on it called me and said the bad news was that they couldn't fix it because they have no stock of Mdl 19 barrels. The good news is they offered me a brand new 4" 686 to replace it! MSRP of that was $694 - Cost to me was only the transfer fee from my local FFL They even paid all shipping!:p

The 19-3 I just got will only be seeing .38 specials and (occasionally) light, hand loaded 158 grain .357s only.

I got to tell the story of my Hong Kong Model 10.

Some years back, I wander into the local gunshop. Owner says:

"I've got something to show you."

Me: I'm not here to buy anything.

Owner: Check this out. (He pulls out the Model 10, like new condition)

Me: I'm not buying that. What's with that lanyard ring?

Of course, it followed me home.

Later, a Hong Kong police officer (who I met on the net) sent me an issue holster and lanyard that went with these 10s. When they traded in the 10s that we have for the heavy barrel 10s (go figger that), they went from a flap holster worn butt forward, weak side, to strong side holsters plus 6 more rounds in a speedloader.

I recently bought one of those RHKP Model 10s, and I still wonder if it ever left the good US of A. It has no wear marks on it, none, except a little drag line, and it has thick oil (grease?) still coming out around the trigger and hammer. Did S&W ship them with a heavy load of lube inside the action?

It is a dream to shoot. I wanted to someday have a pencil barrel M10 and to get one, cheap, with some interesting police background is even better. The shop didn't know what RHKP meant but I did. And the big lanyard loop is different, being installed not in the center of the butt. That was so that the serial number would not be drilled out.

From what I've been told (by that RHKP officer), the engraving of the RHKP + <number> on the backstrap was done in Hong Kong. So, if it's got that engraving, it made the trip and back.

I *still* wonder why the HK police went through all that just to get the heavy barrel Model 10s but that's what they did (and I, for one, am glad that they did).

Mine looked like it never left the factory too...except for that slight drag ring on the cylinder.
