i decided to throw a few of the vmaxes i have for my 204 on the pan to see variation in weight
the 32g typically weighed about 31.4g up to 31.5 and down to 31.2
and the 40g vmax avg 39.4g +/- .1grain,
i tend to shoot better with the 40g than the 32,
but normally i dont have dead calm days either so it could mostly be due to the higher bc of the 40g?
i typically group 1"@100yd- 32gvmax and .75"@100yd 40gvmax
if i weighed and separated the 32g could it improve the group a quarter inch at this range? asking because i have 250 32 and only 100 40g
gun is a ruger mkII 24" barrel stainless synthetic stock.

the other gun is my 788 in .308 just got done fixing its few problems, trigger, accidentally glueing my barrel to the stock:rolleyes:, typical stuff lol....
so i freefloated it and its shooting well so far(5 cold clean bore rds). i have cheap bulk corelokt 165g i kinda plan to use for practice and switch up to 168 smk and 165 sst for real target shooting,
but ended up getting 150g sst instead since that was all thats in stock.

i have reloader 15, varget, benchmark, and h4198, would any of these bullets show any improvement with the calibers weights and powders i have by weighing the bullet too? currently i weigh every charge, trim cases every time resized, no crimp, and used cci 200 primers but ran out so im now using wlr primers.
oh yah, the 788 shoots anywhere between one hole and no other discernable bullet entry in my target(about .308 edge to edge lol) for three shots....to 5 inches for 5 shots, so i think i fixed it now but gotta shoot tomorrow an see, any suggestions as far as bullet weighing to improve accuracy? :scrutiny:

I'm experimenting with the same thing right now, which is part of what prompted my first post to THR (and you responded to) the other day. Until I can reliably control bullet seating depth and case volume in relation to powder charge, I have no real way of knowing. I've already sorted a box each of .270/130 gr Hornadys and .284/160 & 150 Nosler by weighing each bullet in my 505 scale. Hornadys ran a total of .4gr max variation, with approximately 40% 0.1 under, 35% within .05 of right on, about 18% 0.1 over and the balance on either extreme. The .284 Noslers ran more consistently high by 0.1, but I dont' recall the percentages.

My groups with each gun were really inconclusive. Some with equal charges grouped better on the light side, while others preferred heavy bullets. 1 pair of 7 Mags with 0.3gr weight difference between them (just for giggles) hit within .5". Bear in mind that these are hunting rifles and scopes, not race guns.

IF you can get everything else consistent...namely neck tension, seating depth (ogive) and case capacity...you might see a difference with weighing bullets.
But without removing the neck tension, seating depth, and case capacity variables...I don't see how it would help.

Somehow I keep getting the feeling you know the answers to some of your questions ;)

Assuming you are using quality commercial bullets, you're wasting your time by weighing them. If you want to check your bullets for consistency, then check the base-to-ogive dimensions and sort accordingly.

Ditto. They sell a tool for it, but I really don't think you will benefit unless you have equipment that can show the difference. Buying match quailty bullets will be your best bet. Then just work up a good load. I know you can do that.

I don't know, but I would seriously not bet on it. :)
I don't think the average shooter can shoot well enough to notice the effort
I don't think we are dealing with an average shooter, and I would say average equipment, as I alluded to.

has anyone here dealt much with Remington 165g core lokt as far as consistency@~22$/100?, i think this is still my stock affecting the shots mostly though, i free floated it it and shrunk avg group size(after gluing my stock to bbl accidentally then fixing it the first time) from 3-5"@100yd to largest of 2 3/8....smallest of 1 1/8, the 1 1/8" group was 38g RL-15 so i dont know if i will pursue it much due to lower velocity and looping trajectory, ~2400fps might be ok, but i dont really like holding 20" just to shoot 300yd:neener:...i think i may have a pressure point on my barrel still though since my first and second shot have touched every time at 100 yds from a cold clean barrel....so far..., and start to walk up and out a little after that, so a little more work on the stock may be more important than my bullet selection, anyone know of a good synthetic stock that fits a 788 for around a hundred bucks or so:scrutiny: so i can eliminate this problem!?

No. Doubt you would improve groups by any measureable amount at that range by simply weighing. Might see something at 300 yards, and for sure you should see something past that yardage.
