I've seen a 9 oz 5.56 suppressor, some around 10-12 oz. Most I see are around 17-18 and the unreasonable ones (IMO) exceed 20 oz. Even a 10-12 oz seems like a lot of weight to put at the end of a barrel. But for anyone out there who has possibly shot tactically with one, how bad is it to wield a suppressed AR?

It feels unbalanced at first (muzzle heavy) but you get used to it. The center of gravity is more away from your body, so a little extra effort is required to control the rifle. What may really get to you during a long drill is the blowback smoke and residue. Expect the chamber to be heavily fouled in a traditional AR.

Maneuvering with the added length is more significant than the added weight. If you are worried about weight you can buy lighter stock and forend.

I had the pleasure of shooting a full auto suppressed AR and I didn't find it any heavier than my RRA Elite Operator.

It makes a difference. I am running a 20oz Ops Inc. 16th model on a 16" barrel and even though it is a reflex suppressor, I still need to do a fair amount of retraining to be comparable with the rifle in a dynamic shooting environment. Once the suppressor comes off my skill level improves noticeably.

The combination of the weight and being far out on the end of a lever does make it some work compared to just a bare muzzle rifle.

I have a fairly heavy weight YHM Phantom QD for my Colt. It's very noticeable but not to bad. I definitely run the rifle better without it. If you want a dedicated suppressed APR get a light weight can and SBR the rifle.

I got to shoot a Ti Thunderbeast on my 6920.. since I normally have a steel 'slip over' flash hider on it.. the difference in weight was negligible. The LENGTH made a difference to be sure, and there's something to be said for a longer-than normal rail system or free float tube that partially covers the can (they get really hot).

Which suppressor did you use on your AR?

AAC Cyclone on a 7.62X39 16" AR upper and a 24" .937 barreled LR308. After the 24" bull LR308 the 16" AR-15 feels like a ballon.

I will say that for me the balance is more of an issue than the weight. I've added a heavier stock to my suppressed ARs to help move the balance back. It makes the rifles easier to shoot, even though they are pushing 12lbs loaded with the suppressor attached.

As others have said it is more balance than weight but neither seem too much of an issue to me, you really will get used to it quickly.
I'm running a liberty torch with the QA attachment.

If one pound is too much for you, you might give some serious thought about joining a gym.....chris3

yeah, but it's not 1 pound in your hand, it's maybe a pound and a half being held on a stick 2 feet away from your body.......
