So I have done the unthinkable and added my rank to "the dark side" . I bought my first ever Glock today. I know I have sinned against all that is good and holy. I have always been, and will probably still be, a hammer gun guy. However in a moment of sheer impulsivity I came across a deal on a new Gen 3 26 and acted. Now I will never lose my love for the hammer guns but I am eager to try out the "legend of the Glock". So tell me your thoughts on the 26 and I guess I am now a guest at the Glock "Block" party. :p

That was my first, and only Glock, too. A year later, and I still like it, the only complaint I have was the lack of room for my fingers, and a trip online to the Glock Store supplied me with new magazine floor plates and I fixed that. The real Darkside is black powder!

I love mine. I own many Glocks but the 26 is my favorite. Easy to carry and conceal. Works well enough that I use it in IDPA matches sometimes. My scores are barely worse than what I get with the 34. I don't use the mag extensions. Haven't found one that doesn't pinch my finger.

I fought the Glock thing for years, finally bought one a 30, then a 27, and my last a 19, love the 19 every body needs one.

The grip of the Glock 26 is too chunky for me. With a single hand strong grip, I could still rotate the gun in my grip with the pinky on my other hand, pushing on the front sight end.

But if it works for you then by all means, use it.

It took me 30 years to find a Glock I liked to shoot, and that was a G30. That was followed in quick succession by a 34, a 21, a 26, and a 36. The only one not box-stock is the 21 - it's got a 3.5# Ghost connector. The 30, 26 and 36 are my three CCW guns.

I never thought a third of my handguns would be Glocks, or they would be the guns I shoot most....

I am actually surprised but I don't think the grip is "chunky" at all. It actually feels thinner than that of my CZ Rami. I actually find it harder to grab my 26 fro IWB than the CZ because of it. I kinda wish the grip was fatter or longer.

Glock grip shape is so different from sub to compact to full-size, you really have to try each one to see how it works in your hand. The sub guns (26, 27) just don't work for me. I haven't tried one with the different mag floor plate, but without it they're too short and the hump on the backstrap is in the wrong place. With the full-size guns, I have the same issue with the backstrap hump; it hits my hand in the wrong place and just doesn't feel right. Now, I can still shoot them very well, and I have a G35 that I like. For me, the mid-size frame (G19, G23) is perfect. The backstrap hump fits nicely into the base of my palm, and it points naturally for me. If I'm carrying a semi-auto, it's usually a Glock 19. To me, it's just about the perfect concealed carry semi-auto as it is a good compromise of size, weight, capacity, and ballistics.

Glocks have their place. I have my Glock 23 still, I sold off the Glock 22s that came my way as folks fell on hard times. I love my Glock 23, it fits in my pant suit pockets and so long as I wear suspenders, I'm good to go all day and yes I can speed draw the pistol.

I love my Glock 23 because it works on the same principle as my revolvers, not having to fumble with a safety, and still have a 13rnd capacity that puts .38 special to shame.

Now I do like my Sig 228 better, yes. Does it have a better trigger, yes, does it point better, yes. But it won't go in my pants' pockets as easily, comfortably, or draw as easy. So the Sig 228 sits in the safe while my Taurus PT99 or Glock 23 does HD duty (both sit in a master bathroom drawer).

Do I like shooting my STI Spartan 1911 .45 ACP better, yes. Do I shoot the Spartan better, yes. If I could open carry would I carry the Spartan instead, absolutely. But that's not the case.

So don't worry about being a fan of the Glock, it has its purposes and serves a role, nothing wrong with that. If it wasn't a half-decent gun, our military and police wouldn't trust it.

I'm not interested in a Glock 17 or service size Glock other than my Glock 20 and that's because it's a 10mm that can handle the hotter loads out there.

When shooting my Glock 26, I just leave my pinky semi-extended rather than look for a place to put it. I tried out a floor plate extender, but then realized I'm saving that much room from a Glock 19, and the space between the floor plates and the mag well can pinch. Shooting two handed, my pinkies cross over one another without tightly interlocking. They're just along for the ride on subcompact pistols. Using this technique with the smaller of the two, there really isn't much noticeable difference between rapid firing a 26 and a 19.

The "dark side" is awful good, eh?
The last ten years has made me "rethink my thinking".

To this day, a lot of the folks that have known me for decades are surprised that my Ruger revolvers and 1911s are no longer my go to handguns/pistols.
One by one - They're learning.

Son came to visit and brought his G26, recently acquired after selling his XD45c (???). It was the first time he shot it.

All over the target.

Before he loaded another magazine, I handed him my Ruger SR9c... nice tight group. He said, "That sure feels a whole lot better."

He got a bit better with the Glock after about a hundred rounds, commenting that he'd "get better with practice." My question was, "Why not start out with something you shoot better?"

Seriously, not flaming Glocks. Love the 20 and hope to get one before long. The 26 just didn't feel as good in my hands or my son's. He's already talking about selling it to get another Springfield.

Congrats on your new gun.

The only one I ever had was a G22 first gen model.

I've actually considered buying another one in 9mm with the minor updates that came with later gen models. Then I basically asked myself what the point was. In my situation, I've already got several Springfield XDM's as well as multiple hammer fired guns and don't really need another full size or compact duty gun.

The only thing I'm really in the market for handgun wise is another good .22lr pistol or one of the ever popular polymer micro pistols that are all over the place now.

Don't worry, going to the dark side is not a bad thing. I was a confirmed 1911 person for years, bought a Glock 19 just thinking maybe I should try it. Now have two 23s and two 19s and they have become my primary carry. Compared to my 1911s, they cost less, carry more rounds and are lighter to carry, and all of mine have gone bang every time from day one. I have not sold any of my 1911s (and I still have a particular fondness for my Springfield EMP), but it's hard to argue with the Glocks.

I am also a hammer guy that also enjoys striker fired guns.

Of all the Glocks I shoot the worst with the G26, G27. It's not due to the shortness of the grip but the palm swell.

OTOH I shoot very well with the G17, 19, 21, 22, 23.

I don't enjoy Glock enough to actually buy one but I really don't have to, all my range friends are Glock guys.

Great choice. The g26 is the gun that really got me into firearms and to this day is my favorite glock. Not as small as the modern ccw options in 9mm, but is the best shooter of any non-full sized gun I am come across and that includes the new m&p shield. Plus with the versatility of being able to use 15, 17, and 33rd mags it's a great option for someone who can only own one gun. Mine is outfitted with a set of Truglo tfo sigts, some rubber talon grips, and can usually be found riding in my Galco Miami Classic shoulder rig. I've had 3 to date and not a single malfunction out of any of them

In subcompacts, Glocks are by far my favorite firearms. They just point and shoot naturally to me. In full size guns however, the "hump" sits in my hand differently and causes me to naturally point right on the draw. Thats why in the full sized configuration I prefer the XDm

G26 was my first and only Glock. It fits my needs for CCW and SD perfectly; although I don't think they're ugly, I don't think they're pretty either - but who cares, it's the perfect CCW/SD gun in my opinion. Get some new magazine floorplates from GAP and you're golden.

I own a M&P compact, which is kind of between the G26 and G19 (closer to 26, IMO). What I like about Glock is that their +finger floorplates generally offer +capacity as well. S&W hollows out the other side, so the two are the same size.

If I were to switch to Glock, I'd probably get a 19 first, but I could see adding a 26 to the lineup later on. Nothing quite fits my "holy grail", but Glock is one of four in the running for what I will consider closest.

I do certainly hope / assume that by "dark side" , you meant XDs, M&Ps, and Glocks.
My post # 14 meant all of those, not at all just Glocks.
