Hello all- I have a norinco SKS that has very small cracks in the receiver at the bottom rear of the cutout where the hammer glides. They are on both sides at the rear of the rectangular slot and are less than a centimeter in length. However, they do show through on both sides. I was thinking about taking the gun to a welder friend of mine and having him weld around the rectangular slot to prevent further cracking. Would this work? Are there any other suggestions or warnings? Thank you in advance.

Welding on a receiver is a sure way to ruin it.

There is no way to control the temperature, so whatever was hardened will end up soft.
It may also very likely warp the receiver.

Best I could offer is to drill a small hole in the end of each crack.
That should stop them from progressing any further.
