ok to start out i had taked my wife and her sister and husbund out shooting once before, it was ok but he still wasn't all that crazy about it (for a lack of better words) and was still afraid of the gun and though it would kill someone somehow.

anyways i get a call from his the other day saying he is going to go look at guns then go to the range with his 30-06 his dad gave him years ago.

so of corse i jumped in my car and brought all my guns out to go with them. he liked the XD but once he held the M&P40 he put a deposit down on it.

we got to the range and he was still timmid so i set him down with my Marlin M60 to start so i could watch him and make sure he was doing everything properly. then i let him have his 30-06 back and he was doing great. 5shots at 50yards in about the size of a softball w/3-9 scope.

i let him shoot my mosin and he is now wanting one as well as a 12gauge pump, and a .22 in a rifle and pistol so he can practice cheaply. we ended up spending a few hours there and almost 1k in .22LR alone.

when we where leaving he thanked me many many times and said that he used to be afraid of guns and thought that just sitting there unloaded it was dangerous. now he is comfertable around them and is going this week to get his CPL as well as taking some trainign corces once he pickes up his M&P so he is more acustomed to it.

It sounds like you advised him well, good job!

Just keep it fun and you will create a gun lover that brings in more gun lovers. You did good.

Sounds like a "philosophical liberal" who suddenly realized that this isn't the Land of Oz and that, when Very Bad Things really happen, 911 ain't The Wizard

I have been able to introduce many to the sport. However, the people I would call "antis" are ones I can never seem to persuade otherwise. They always have some negative attitude and just want to argue to show that you cannot influence their opinion, not because of the issue at hand, but because of their personality type. Thickheaded, uneducated folk. :fire:

Great work.

Remember guys all you really have to do is keep a level head and use logical arguments and facts to convince people of our side. It honestly isnt that hard, there are whole websites full of statistics and arguments to memorize. The thing to remember is NEVER LOSE YOUR COOL, be calm and logical no matter how rediculous his argument is.

I have converted at least one of my friends that way

ya sorry i didn't even think for the grammar check.

before i told him what happened to me in downtown seattle he would always argue with me about anything gun related, and would constantly bother me about carring.

i told him how i was cornered by 2 men that one was rather large and i had to show force to get myself out of the situation. ended up those same 2 men had beaten some tourists badly and robbed them at knife point.

Good job man. I'm not surprised he wants a mosin. Everyone who has ever shot mine has become "in the market" for one of their own. Sweet...

Great job! I'm hoping to convert a few myself in the upcoming weeks. We should start a tally system seeing who converts the most people.

Man, I should have been there and let him fire my Mauser K-98 a couple of times. He's going to want BOTH Mosin and Mauser!:D

And the good thing is that neither one of these will break anyone's budget, especially with all this inflation going on nowadays.:D

good job!

been talking some sense into an aunt who's an anti & complete hoplophobe.

It's slow going but have her up to realizing that a gun is not much different from a hammer or drill & able to actually hold an unloaded one.
(IE: it won't shoot by itself.)
(Kudos to my Cousin [her son] for helping out)

Congrats! Thank you.

Now, your next mission is to convince lukewarm gun people in ALL freedom and gun issues!

Catherine

I recently converted two antis at least to neutrality, if not to enthusiasm. The persuasive arguments in both instances included education about crime rates and gun laws (both were aware that cities such as Chicago and D.C. had incredibly high rates of violent crime, but were unaware that they also had total or near-total handgun bans), pointing out the ineffectiveness of prohibitory gun laws on criminal activity (referencing both the ineffectiveness of existing drug bans, and the idea that people who are willing to commit assault, armed robbery, or murder are unlikely to be deterred by the prospect of a firearms violation), and the idea that legal guns held by law-abiding citizens empower the most vulnerable members of society - women, the disabled, and the elderly - against violence.

Nice work, but it would be a whole lot easier and more pleasant to read if you'd take the time to capitalize, punctuate, and spell properly for us old pharts who don't do texting:neener: and maybe went to school when that stuff mattered -

hardly sounds like an anti, just scared of guns. I'm afraid of brown recluse spiders but I'm not anti spider. good job though.
i'm quite anti spider... they scare the bejesus out of me, no matter what species.
