I bought a new rifle my first bolt action. I've been wanting one for a while and doing research and I finally did it I. I bought a FN A1aSPR .308 it's got the 20" fluted barrel. I traded in one of my ar's in so the money wasn't so bad. I am saving up for my scope I think I'm going to get a Nightforce 5.5x22, for now I will use my Leoupold 2.5x8 vari-x III that I had on my ar.One bad thing is I am waiting for it to come in...I hate waiting.

Congrats! :D That looks like a fine rifle!
Make sure you post a range report when everything's set!

Is there a proper break-in for this rifle...from what I read breaking in a gun is not needed. It does have a chromed lined barrel. I have always bought all my rifles used so I never had to do this.

Also for you nonreloaders what ammo do you use? I bought some 308 Federal Gold Medal Sierra MatchKing BTHP 168 Grain. Is there any others? I will start relaoding someday...soon

There are differing opinions of break in procedures.

My personal feeling is that break in rituals are more Voo-Doo than science.

Not to change focus of the original post but, you might wanna rethink the optic unless you have positive experience with the 2.5-8x. I have found them lacking in field of veiw and brightness.

That said, I can't think of a better 1st bolt gun!

Congrats on the rifle. The SPR is an outstanding pick. If you are considering a NightForce, you also may wish to look at US Optics. I have both and I love the fact that USO will build a scope to your specs.

I liked the Leoupold on my AR...I'm just using it for now so I could save up some funds for a new one. The FN comes with a rail and my Leoupold has ARMS throw levers so it will be easy to throw it on for now.

I've looked at these they are really nice but real expensive. My limit is around $1500-$1800 on glass and the US optics I saw are $2000+ I will look into them more though :D
