nearly two years doing security gigs in KCMO and Las Vegas! Just finished my last shift....got a new job with better hours, more money, less interesting clientel, nights and weekends free, no body armor or crackheads...maybe I can re-jumpstart a life!!
Whew...my heart goes out to the security professionals.....the stuff I saw, and had to put up with. Simply Amazing......
Had two gents wave knives at me(from a distance, they were not stupid...but it never happened again after they saw my reaction), was 'painted' by a laser, cussed at by a tanked up crack ho that walked back and forth in front of me off my property saying stuff that would have made a Marine proud, was accused of sexual harrasment and stalking(by another crack ho that took offense to my observation of her continual flow of crackdealers to her room), accused of bigotry(when I arrested someone for theft), was assaulted by two women who then tried to sue the company for me using excessive force(fortunately the event was caught on video tape), chewed out for not using my handcuffs enough, then chewed out for using my handcuff's too much, went to court to see my partner take a misdemeanor hit for battery because he pushed a young girl out of harms way(her parasitical parents pressed charges against him...my company offered no assistence), was told to stop harrassing the hotel guests...even if they were dealing drugs off our property, stood up on multiple occassions to groups of four or more crackdealers by myself because they were tresspassing, and made a small stand against the flow of illegal drugs that was like sticking one finger in a dike that had been hit by a minigun.
But they now know on the local streets, not all people... are sheeple.
Took three people off the streets, they now reside as a guest of the state...one was a serial rapist/gangmember wanted for attempted homicide. Another a multiple felon that sexually assaulted a 65 year old woman, and the last was a young 27 year old lady that went from crackdealer to crackdealer, mule, ho, small time robbery assistant.....she was on the run, hiding from out of state authorities.
Used my ASP once, closed for solar plexus strike that ended the assault, drew my .45 auto four times...each time so fast in response to a threat there was little conscious thought..each time noted that it was pointed down, finger off the trigger, thumbsafety still on..awaiting the final push to RED(two of the draws were automatic reactions to the knife wielder's, the second infront of a group of dealer's...perhaps that is why it never happened again?).
After that, I heard from an informant, I was given a street name by the local dealer's- 'Wild Bill' (Hickock, I presume). And alot more respect.
Long late hours, weird sleep patterns, dreams that incorporate the things you have seen and wake you before you have had a sound rest. No social life, off hours calls, dispatched to change a lightbulb, change a lock, fix an airconditioner, flip a breaker switch, run off a well known violent drug dealer(wearing a pair of sweats and t-shirt doing laundry barefoot....that was the last time I left my 'house' without a handgun in the last six months. Been lied too so much, my BS filter grew so small, I was not believing anyone's line, excuses, denials, misdirection, ....well, it was a most educational experience!!
I look forward to returning to 'normal' life! Begins this afternoon, when I turn in my gear! Then go have a beer or three in celebration of surviving the street game unscathed and a tiny bit wiser!
I am moving too...and may be off line for awhile....but you all at THR have helped alot.....made me feel like a normal gunnut even at 400 am after a rough shift and little chance for sleep.
Thanks, Ladies and Gents!!
Catch you later!!

We do what we must to provide for ourself and family.
I'm glad to hear you have a better job now.
I'm even happier to hear that you made it "out" alive and sane.

Let me be the first to welcome you back to the world Jerry.

RTFM

Sounds like you deserve a break, and a change of scenery. Glad you're OK, guess this proves the point that there's no such thing as 'a free education', eh? Stay safe & take care.

Jerry,
Glad you survived.
One good thing about your two year tour is that your radar is "ON". You are now naturally aware of the situation around you and a bad guy will be hard-pressed to get one over on you. Can't buy that at Wal-Mart!

Good luck with your new life,
BamBam

I did the security gig for 8 months. That was enough for me. Never had to draw my gun, but came really close once. Used my ASP once. I hear you on the long, late hours. And I know what its like to not get enough sleep and having wierd sleep paterns. The radar is always on after work like that. Some of my new co-workers think its funny how I am always looking around and assessing customers, but you never know!

Glad to hear you got out of it ok. Good luck with your new employment.

As someone that has had to take a job to pay the bills more than once, I know how you feel.

Good Luck,

David

Sounds like you got to see the side of Vegas the tourists don't see! Glad you're out of it - maybe now we can meet and go shooting! Yes! :)

Greeting's Jerry-

Congrat's on an exciting career; and I know how you
must feel, cuz I've been dealing against the same type
scum bag's since Feburary of 1977!:D

I'm sure glad that my career both, as a LEO and as a
security officer is finally over. First, you simply can't
police the way I was taught. Because if you do, you
will find yourself brought up on charges!:( Far too
many new rules and regulations to have to contend
with, in order to "Protect N' Serve".

And the security field has been, is, and will be a "JOKE";
especially those unarmed position'. In todays society,
even professional security officer's need the
tactical advantage of being armed and well trained!:D

If I desired, I could sit down and write a book about
the myth's surrounding the employment of security
officer's; but unfortunately I don't have the time, nor
will power to do that just yet. Maybe after this brief
stint of R&R, I will see thing's differently?

Best Wishes,
Ala Dan, N.R.A. Life Member
