Well that was unpleasant; Ruger #1 chambered in .375 H&H Ackley Improved.

I have and shoot a Ruger No.1B in 30-06. Doesn't seem to recoil any more than any other 30-06. Load is Nosler 180gr Partition's or Hornady Interlock 180's with 57.0gr H-4350. Thinking the No.1B's may be a tad heavier than other No.1's?

I had a River #1 in .458 Winchester Magnum. I shot it approximately 100 times with full power reloads over several months the year before going on safari to Africa. This rifle literally gave me whiplash! I bought a Sako .375 H&H bolt action and used it in RSA. I sold the Ruger.

Ive had Bs in .22-250, .243 and .280.
They aint bad but they do hit harder than they should IMHO.
Pad or fit? I dunno, all of mine (even my .308) are/were red pads.

FWIW I find Remington 700s to fit me well and the factory pads in 7 and .300 mag were decent enough.
The Tupperware stocks w their pads in .243 comfy.
Think the HS equipped stuff may have had some pad like (or actually of ) Pachmayr Decelerator.

The boat paddle 77 Rugers had a chunk of radial tire for a pad LOL
