If this doesn't fit the general discussion area feel free to move to rifles but I wasn't sure.

Anyway, I have tried to go shooting all weekend and just couldn't get out there. Range close, no time, rain etc. It was really getting to me. So I figured I pull out the ole' BB gun and shoot off the back deck but it just isn't the same with a 10 pump plastic toy of a gun so I finally decided to get something that might actually approximate going to the range.

Well what I ended up with was a Beeman GS1000 .22 caliber air rifle and I am quite flabberghasted at how much of a "REAL" rifle this is. Nice wood, nice checkering, decent scope and a heft and feel that puts some of my "REAL" guns to shame.

It is extremely accurate and actually was just about as fun as shooting a .22 firearm. Sheslinger feels like it is more fun than a .22 because she feels like it actually has the feel of a real gun where as our 10/22 doesn't feel quite real enough for her.

Anyway I am sorry I waited this long to get a decent air rifle. I can see how this may actually help my real rifle shooting.

Anyway just thought I would share. If anybody else is on the fence don't go cheap get something that approximates a real gun, it makes a world of difference.

Chris

You might enjoy "mini-sniping" with that rifle; Capstick once wrote an article where he described shooting at empty 9mm cases with an air rifle, and he said the practice in trigger and breathing control was well worth it.

Heh.

If y'all ever come visit K-town way, we'll introduce you to one of our favorite sports; we hang a tin can in the trees across the road and kick back in the comfy chairs on the front porch and plink at it with rennaissancemann's Russkie target air pistol. It's big dirty fun.

Ahhh..that takes me back. I used to enjoy shooting my Benjamin .22 air rifle in my back yard as a kid. I used to spend hours setting up shooting galleries of empty cans and whatever else I could find.

One day I told my father I was going to shoot up some squirrels for dinner. After all we had family coming and I wanted to help with the food! My dad said ok but I think he was secretly chuckling to himself thinking that I wouldn't shoot anything or that I wasn't serious. Soon though I had the prey in my sights - a nice plump, brown squirrel that had been fattening himself up on our pecan tree out back all season. I drew a bead on him, held my breath and pulled the trigger. I shot the squirrel literally right between the eyes, it couldn't have been a better shot. I brought my prize into dad and he was somewhat shocked but he was a good sport about it and we skinned and cleaned it and put it on the grill with the chicken. After that though he told me to save my squirrel hunting for our land out in the country as it wasn't exactly legal (as far as I know) and safe in the city.

Anyway...that's my good memory of airgun shooting. Happy hunting! ;)

Cool beans. I bought a little co2 pistol off a co worker for a box of .40 shells from walmart. Its no fun as its only one shot :( but not bad. Thats a pretty nice looking gun. Where did you pick it up from? How loud is it?

We ventured out in the rain, was somewhat fun mostly just to waste lead more than anything it seemed. Releaved some stress....and dang it exercised our rights as Americans on Memorial Day weekend to keep and bear arms

Picked it up at Academy Sports for a real gun price. $349.00, Cough.

Like I said though, it feels worth it.

Chris

$349? Wow... too bad the airsoft stuff isn't all as high quality wood and such for that price.

Though I would still prefer a real firearm now.

WhoKnowsWho,

$349 isn't too bad for a high-quality airgun.

Don't check out the prices of a top-flight piece like a Walther LG300 if you don't want a nosebleed from the altitude. (Think pre-ban Colt AR range...)

Very nice rifle, cslinger. I've owned a nice RWS 45 in .177 for maybe 20 years now. The Beemans are the epitome of what is available in terms of affordable precision air rifles. You've picked a good one. They will make you an even better shooter.

Regards,
Rabbit.

i'm seriously thinking about this particular piece for my next purchase. academy sports has it here for $262 (gh1000 combo) and it comes with the scope mounted and a free tin of pellets..like you said, the likeness to a real rifle is what drew me to it..it almost looks better than my marlin 336 ss..:what: i need to do a little more research on it before putting the greenbacks down on it..
