I've been scouting a bean field that has tracks in it and trails in the woods, but I cant find any rubs in the woods. This is my first time scouting by myself. What gives... am I doing something wrong?

Get someone experienced to help you out. I've been out scouting 3 times so far this year with my hunting partner. He's been hunting for 30 years and knows what to look for. It's my first time ever, and I've really been going to school on him.

We're hunting Arizona mule deer. We found a great scrape at the spot we've since picked as where we'll be come opening morning. Thing is, being in the desert with so few trees the scrape is on the ground, not on trees. We also came across a couple gaggles of does. Didn't see any bucks, but they can't be too far off from the does.

give it a little time - might be a bit early yet to see really obvious buck activity. it is out there, but things haven't kicked into high gear yet.

go to where you are finding trails, and without actually standing on the trail, but close enough to see detail, follow it for a bit. this time of year you'll find 2 trails: 1 obvious one (doe/fawns are primarily on this one), and another that you may not even notice - this is the one to pay attention to if you are after a buck. it will be close to the other trail, will probably paralell it, and the trails are likely to intersect in a few places.

follow enough trails and you'll suddenly start seeing rubs and scrapes.
