I went to a local public range today which is located near the river bottoms and is actually on private property (he allows shooting by on his land). So driving down the dirt road I noticed there was more people than usual but didn't think too much of it. There are several areas to shoot and in several directions that are safe, NONE OF THEM ARE BEING USED! They were shooting towards the road leading into the place, the Highway and just about anywhere where a burm was not placed. I being an idiot, decided to go ahead and shoot. I have my own land to shoot on but was already there and I am stubborn stupid. Drove down to an area separated from the others, set up and began to shoot.

About half way through a 50 round box of .380 I hear a four wheeler pull up behind me, then drive around me, and down to where I was shooting. Then he set up just behind my targets and began shooting a pistol of some sort and began shooting perpendicular to my targets! I packed up and left, pissed the hell off. On my way out I saw the most ridiculous (dangerous) set up of shooting I have ever witnessed in my life. People shooting AR's ten feet in front of them while a friend sets up a glass bottle not 5 feet from where the bullets are landing. People walking around with loaded guns, sweeping everybody, again shooting toward the road (which I have to drive down to leav). NEVER AGAIN!

Some people say that a bad day at the range is better then a good day at work, I think this disproves that.

What the bleep?
No range master or supervision of any sort?
My own public range at least has a guy there to keep an eye on things.

Saw something kind of similar on a recent shooting trip. Guy were pulled not even 5 feet off the road, and shooting at a dirt hill that was way too close... I'm not really great at estimating range, but I could pick up a rock and hit the hill with ease. Didn't even stop shooting as we drove by.

Wow.. at least you came out of there unscathed! The lack of safety rules and RO should've been a big concern for that place.

If I read correctly fellas, it's private land that's not an actual shooting range and is open to the public to shoot on. So there would be no RSO or proper lanes. If I read it right?

Seriously? I hope you're joking. Well, that is what China does. Maybe we should model our country after China.

Dan Bear is correct. A handful of people are stupid, this will always be the case with humanity. I do not want bureaucrats deciding who is worthy of procreating and who is not.

Nope. I usually don't go out there on weekends, and no one is out there on weekdays. I will have a chat with the owner about it, I know him pretty well, well enough to know that he wouldn't allow that crap on his land if he had been there.

Hang on a minute... I'm not trying to criticize, but what was your reason for not shooting on your own land? I would love to have my own patch of dirt to shoot on. If I had a little extra cash, I'd get a couple acres outside of town, build a berm, and never go to a public range again.

There a reason why so many private clubs are circling the wagons and closing off membership!
