So I went to the range to shoot 150 rounds of 44 special to get my brass for my skeeter loads and to test 100 of my 38 wadcutter hand loads ( everything went great ) and on the way out the door of course I had to peek at the pre owned counter. 3 wheelguns. A hand ejector smith for a thou, a blue security six 2.75 for 699 and a lowly nobody-wants-me 67-6 HH gun for 499.00. “Gee whiz.. lemme see the K frame”. Super mint condition looks to have had 50 rounds through it and a fantastic trigger! Tight as a drum lockup and straight barrel etc. sideplate never touched, sights centered.. did I mention the trigger that comes in prolly 9lbs DA smooth as glass? “Is this consignment that I can make an offer?” No. “Ok.. I’ll see y’all later”. Sat in car for 20 minutes battling with the little devil on my shoulder. Called the Mrs. NO. Texted pals, looked up values, texted the Mrs.. she caved! ( I love her!) lol. Went back and got it. It’s perfect and I did not have a K frame in the house. It’s going to be the perfect wadcutter gun. Attached is some of my hand load groups. 7 yards DA 686 no dash . Berrys DEWC 148 gr over W231

Nice pick up!
I hate the thought of those dang locks, but truth be told, I'd buy another at the right price. Currently only have 1 post lock 64-? And yes it has the lock, and the 2 piece barrel. You know what else it has? The second best trigger of my 2 dozen or more S&W revolvers.
Only beaten out by my wonderful 19-3.

Called the Mrs. NO.
When I first read this I thought it said “Called Mrs NO” and I thought “that would be a great nickname for my wife.”
Well, sometimes. 😆
I just woke up a little while ago I guess I need coffee.

Great find on that 67-6 and a great price too! Congratulations!

So far I have had 4 S&Ws with
IMG_6041.jpeg
and haven’t had one issue with them.
Issues regarding the lock, that is. I had 1 model 60 Pro that was a Performance Center POS but even firing 158 grain .357 Mag loads, lots of them, the lock never moved.

Enough about that. Are the grips on the 67 factory or aftermarket?
Also, how much powder in your wadcutter load? I just started toying with HP-38, W231’s sister. :)

The stocks are uncle mikes.. I’m assuming gun would have come with hogue rubber? The UM’s are amazing! Perfect feel. WC’s are Berrys 148 DEWC with 3.8g of w231 at 1.2120. Very accurate and clean nice “pop”. Not too hot, not too soft.

The mikes are the most comfy rubber stocks I’ve ever had. This thing is going to eat my wadcutters like candy

67-1 I inherited from my Father and dressed up with Keith Brown stocks.
Van......Those are arguably the prettiest stocks I've ever seen on a Smith....truly lovely. And on a 67-1 (I have one too). Pic below with Altamont 'Ropers' installed.

Shoe...I predict you're gunna love that 67... target loads to the old FBI carry load (158's at ~900+ fps are no laughing matter)...the .38 spl is a fine cartridge and that's just the revolver to thoroughly enjoy it..

Best regards, Rod

Good pickup on the Model 67. Great revolvers and those Uncle Mikes grips are hard to beat.

I never worried too much about "the lock" and these days the only time I think about it when I'm reading one of these threads. I've only got one lock gun currently, a 29-10, but I've owned I don't know how many over the years. Never a problem.

I don't have a 67 anymore either. I have to settle for it's blue cousin, a 15-2 (1966) that I picked up not too long ago. It's a little "pimpy" with the Eagle Faux Pearl grips, but I like "pearl" grips. What can I say?

I need to take it to the range this weekend. It does love wadcutters. I also use Berrys 148 DE, with Bullseye or 231. Fantastic DA trigger. I've taken the BK off since the picture. The Eagles don't need it, and it doesn't fit well with them anyway.

I go back and forth between the Model 19/66 and the Model 15/67 as to which I like best. Since this is about the Combat Masterpiece, I like that one best. For now.

Thanks Rod. I’m looking for stocks for it and your Altamonts look pretty spiffy!
I like the Altamonts Ropers a lot, Shoe, but then again I'm old, decrepit and avoid heavy loads now in my dotage. With target WC level (750 fps) and 158 LSWC's up to say 900, they're quite comfortable. Beyond that, the 2nd knuckle takes a rapping from the rear of the trigger guard. As these are fairly standard loads/velocities for a .38 Spl., I'm not really giving up much in the way of performance for my uses.

This 629, with 5" fully lugged bbl., below, has the same type and despite it's weight, is still a knuckle duster with anything above 1000 fps....but they're sure purty. Best regards, Rod

Very cool pickup! Nice to see I’m not the only one who briefly walked away from a gun in the consignment case, only to walk back in and plunk down the money after a few minutes of soul searching. 😇

Can’t wait to see how your new K frame shoots for you. My Model 67 is a no-dash with the original stainless sights. Like yours, the trigger in both DA and SA is fantastic: nice and smooth with zero stacking. I will say that the silvery colored sights do wash out in some lighting conditions, so I painted the front sight orange to help me see it.

Great guns both, the Models 15 and 67. If one of them were the only gun I could keep, I wouldn’t be poorly armed at all.

Stay safe.

Rio are those oversees stocks? Look a lil plump down in the grip area.. look great! Yea I would not feel outgunned with a 38+p. One tiny disappointment with this 67-6 after closer inspection the barrel shroud is slightly over clocked. It bugs me but the rear sight isn’t “all” the way over but it ain’t centered! I’m going to shoot it maybe tomorrow or next and see if I can live with it. I’m half tempted to send to Frank Glenn and have that fixed and a master action job.

So I’ve got a 638, Trr8 and now 67-6 all lock guns all great triggers. No issues with any of them. Do I detest the lock with every fiber of my soul? YES. Still good guns
Just bought my first Hillary Hole (HH, interlock) Smith, something I absolutely swore I would never do! My new 25-15 in 45 LC is a beautiful gun with an outstanding trigger pull. I took the side plate off to remove the interlock and replace it with a TK Custom plug and noted the perfect fit for the side plate, even though I've never owned a Smith that didn't have a perfect fit. The MIM hammer and trigger function perfectly and as one would expect, lockup is perfect. I've read about all the negatives on the HH Smith's and, again, said I would never buy one. This new Smith is absolutely equal in fit and quality to my other non-HH Smith's. I have zero regret on my purchase. Would I buy a non-HH gun over an interlock if price and condition are approximately the same. Absolutely! But, as we all know the non-HH guns bring much more money than the interlock models, and I, for one, am not sure it's worth the substantial extra money. I shoot my guns so buying guns for investment or a collection doesn't influence my decision. Money/condition, do. I think all the negative hype about the interlock is grossly exaggerated. The "new" Smith's are high quality, fine revolvers.

Shoe, The only type I have are HKS and they are a very tight fit with .357, but a little better with .38 Spl in K frames. Rod
