Hey guys I am new to the site but not hunting or guns. But I did have a question concerning the Marlin 30-30 western field (montgomery ward) model lever action rifle. Anybody have any info on them I found one that I can pick up for $200 with a 1-4x scope. I had never heard of the western feild marlins and was wondering if anyone new about these guns.
Thanks

To the best of my knowledge they are Marlin rifles with the store brand not the Marlin name on them. No fuctional or mechanical differences.
Any information you need would be for the Marlin 336.
I own a 30-30 Marlin and love that gun it is and has always been my go to gun for hunting deer.

If the bore is shiny and there's no rust, heck yeah buy it.

Marlin will probably ship you a manual for free if you need it.

Yep, if that gun is in decent condition it's well worth $200, but of course see if he will take $160:D

Montgomery Ward Firearms

The following makers made firearms for Montgomery Ward.
Remington, Colt, Noble, Mossberg, Savage, Marlin, Stevens.
Some folks don't like store brand firearms. I think they take us back to a better time in America when you could buy a firearm at most any mall or department store. Wards, Sears, Wool Co, JC Penny, Belk, Western Auto and Even Walgreen Drug stores. Store brand guns are a symbol of America at it's finest.

:) Thanks guys I am headin out there in an hour, I can tatse it my first lever action for deep woods oregon hunting
