Well, I had the Western Field "Browning Patent" 16GA out last weekend. :D I LOVE it!. The only thing problematic is the "next shell" retainer which keeps the whole magazine from trying to load on one pump. It sticks sometimes. Working the empty action and watching it, you can see that it doesn't extend fully every once in awhile.

I need the takedown instructions for this beast, so I can clean out any junk in there and examine what is going on (and, so I can install a plug.)

TIA

It appears that this is the Stevens model 520. I've found the schematic and parts list, but am still looking for the field stripping guide.

Well, we have more information. Harley Nolden (Jagermeister) from THR sent me a copy of the owner's manual, with the disassembly instructions. Trapp55 over on MC led me onto a couple of sites with schematics, so we are gaining on it.

Book says, "The Model 520 was made from 1915 to 1930, and during that time was also sold by Sears as their Model 31 "Ranger." The gun was designed by John Moses Browning and many Model 520 barrels have a marking that includes the words "Browning's Patent," a cause of some confusion. The Stevens Model 620 and Model 621, made fron 1927 to 1953 are similar mechanically, and some of the takedown procedures may be applies."

I'm a happy camper. :D:D:D Thanks to everybody for all the interest and help.

Father-in-Law's Western Field

My father-in-law has asked me to find information about his Western Field shotgun he inherited. It has the double hump.

I understand this is a Stevens 520. It has sat in a closet for more than 30 years but I would like to understand more about it and use it to shoot trap.

I know it has been 4 years since this thread first post but can someone email the manual or provide a link for me? It would most appreciated.

Best regards
Damon

What would you like to know, specifically? They're good shooting, solid shotguns that just happen to have very little monetary value.

Not an owners manual, but an exploded view:
