I came across a what appears to be never fired Western Field 724A E Mannlicher .30-06. It was made by Heym in West Germany, possibly in the mid to late 60's. The finish on the iron is I'd say close to 100%, and the stock probably 85-90%, with some handling marks. Does anyone have any other info on it, or possible value of it? The only thing I've found was 1 on gunbroker with a junk Kassnar scope for $1100, but no bids. I'm only in it for $300. Thanks for any info in advance.

It's worth $300.00 - the ones I actually see sell are standard stocks in the $400 range. The Mannlicher stock can add $150-$200 or so to the stock. A Heym isn't a true Mauser, but they are good actions. If memory serves the only real problem with them is the extractors can break.

They were made by Heym...GREAT actions...not really sure of the value.

Slickest bolt rifle I ever had was a Mauser 3000, that was made by Heym.

Lovely rifles, but hard to sell. I think if you're looking for a shooter, you'll get a great bargain, but as an investment it's very chancy.

Personally, I think the "department-store guns" of the 60s and 70s are wonderful; real works of art, some of them. But my experience has been that they're very unappreciated and under-valued in the general market.
