AA #5 works great in full power 9MM jacketed or plated, and good in .38 Spl +P jacketed or plated. AA #9 is great for full power .44 Mag. Never tried any AA #7.

When I started reloading I was given some Win 231 and some #7 along with some Hornaday XTP 115 gr bullets by a friend.
This was at the tail end of the powder shortage.
I've had nothing but good results with the 231.
#7 shot fine but for some reason I wound up with light loads. Being new I know I purposely made sure to start on the low side. In the case of #7 I'm not sure where in the Lee book I got the load. What I know is in my full sized S&W it failed to eject, but was fine in my PF9.
So to make a long story short I used some of the light loads in the PF9 and disassembled the rest. I went back and rechecked the load data and found the light load issue. Adjusting the next batch all has been fine in both guns.
Overall I don't see much difference between the Win 231 loads and the #7 loads now. Now I don't have a chrono yet and my targets were at self defense range and I was looking to make sure the loads were safe and my basics down. So I wasn't too hung up on group size etc. so now serious comparisons in that regard.
Add that it's been cold this winter and wet this spring and my range trips have been limited.
Oh I guess the other thing I can offer is #7 meters ok in a Lee Perfect Powder measured. Fairly consistent and no issues.
