So I was talking to my wife yesterday about wanting to get a semi-auto rifle. We have our first child on the way in December, so I don't want to spend a lot of money and thought that a SKS would be perfect due to its low cost. My wife turns to me and says, "Why not get a Garand instead?" :what:

I love my wife. :D

Congrats on being pregnant. You did good to find a mate who knows the difference between a SKS and a Garand.

yep, congrats! For both the Garand and your baby-pretty cool! My wife too seeing the lethality of my Garand and my wish gun of the G20- she bought me the G20, then we had our first grandchild. Something about things coming in 2's.

good for you!

The Garand is a fine rifle, so if she approved that purchase, I'd buy one before she changes her mind!

Of course, I have two SKS carbines, and I love them to death, so I'd never tell you NOT to get one. When you consider the cost of shooting .30-06 vs 7.62x39, you may want to pick up both rifles so you can shoot more with one than the other.

I'm not arguing that one cartridge is better than the other. They're not even comparable to each other, and each one has its own advantages and disadvantages. I don't know what you want the rifle for aside from just owning a semiauto rifle.

You can get a service grade Garand from the CMP for less than $600. It will be a terrific shooting weapon.

i got that beat! my wife bought me a garand for xmas 2 years ago from cmp! of course i did the paperwork but she bought it! mine is a keeper

Sheesh! If I asked my wife "Can I have a Garand?" She'd scoff and retort, "Where am I gonna get $1,000.00?! There's a 20 in my purse...you can have it." :(
