Hi, rgs1975
By the way, when I can practically count the grains in the krud and easily read the info on the barrel that's some mighty fine picture takin, mighty fine. Glad to hear that the consensus is you family heirloom is OK. Please share your range experience. I have a feeling you will have a great "peanut gallery" watching from front row center.

I took her completely apart last night and cleaned her up real good.
You guys were right. I pulled more dirt, gunk, grime and crap out of that chamber recess than I could imagine. It just kept on coming out with the plastic pick, thought it would never end LOL
Anyway, she's clean now and the cut out does look much more "machined" and orderly than before. I'll try to put up some photos today when I'm home from work.
ps. The barrel and rifling is clean, bright and nearly perfect. Not a single pit or spot of rust to be seen.
oh definitely.
I wish i had a little hand me down joy like that.
oh wait, I still have that SS87a the man I work for gave me, that his father gave him.
I tell you what. Those are the best ones. I wish we were allowed to keep them at school. Life's not complete without the trips to the range.
I know that it's been beaten to death that it was the extractor cut-out, but, I do have to ask...
...for a .22, what in the heck could possibly take out that much of a chunk of metal, right there, unless it was some form of catastrophic failure (which, since we've Xed out "bad metal", seems unlikely) in which case your dad probably would've gotten rid of it?
Have fun shooting that puppy, looks like it'll be a hoot to shoot.
