What about Remington 700 XCR?

I've been admiring a marked-down Remington 700 XCR in 7mm Rem Mag. I intend to use the rifle for white-tailed deer at ranges of 100 - 300 yards. I like the fact that it's weather proof and has the new X-Mark trigger. Do you guys think this would be a good choice? Thanks.

700's are always a good decision! I bought an sps stainless that was on sale. I can't quite afford the XCR. In my opinion, the XCR is an american made rifle and reliable and accurate, therefore worth the money! I have never shot nor handled the XCR, but i do love my sps! best of luck!

Not sayin' a 7mm rem mag isn't a fine caliber.

The XCR is near the top of the line of Remington 700 rifles.

The x-mark triggers are pretty nice too, very easily adjusted, very crisp, no creep.

It should be a great investment.

I bought a 700 XCR in .270 WSM a year ago. I do like it and took a mule deer and cow elk with it last fall. It particularly likes Nosler 140 gr. AccuBonds and Barnes 140 gr TSX bullets - both on top of MagPro.

For me, the X-Mark trigger did take a little "getting used to". I learned that if I take more than one rifle to the range, I need to shoot this one first. For whatever reason, my groups open up some if I shoot something else first and then the X-Mark trigger immediately afterward. Just one of my many personal quirks, I suppose...

Evan, are you saying 7mm Rem Mag is too much for whitetail? That it'll overpenetrate without expanding? I was looking at the boxes of 7mm ammo at the store, and it looked like they were in the 140 to 160 gr. range, which seemed about right to me. I've always heard great things about 7mm mag, the gun is on sale, and I want a new toy to play with during the off season. They also had a Savage model 16, stainless and synthetic, in 270 WSM. It was not as nice a gun (at half the price, duh), and the barrel, which seemed pretty short, was brightly polished and reflective.

The 7 mag will be just fine for deer, just stay away from the controlled expansion bullets if your going ofter light game and enjoy.

It's one of my favorite deer calibers.

I have one in the old boat paddle Ruger paired with a Leupold 4.5-14 and for all practical purposes it's more accurate than and it's never let me down.
