What about Wolf Military Classic .223?

Seems fine in my Arsenal AK, but I've never ran it in an AR. I let my buddy with a AR shoot a half dozen of the poly coated ones (I think it was "Military Classic". I cant tell the difference between those and regular Wolf when it comes to 223.) through his and it worked fine. That's in no way meant to be "extensive" testing. It shoots a bit on the dirty side too.

This has been posted many times, but it bears repeating:

Most ARs can handle the steel cased ammo without problems, but you need to get a chamber brush and keep that chamber clean. Since steel cased ammo doesn't expand as fully as brass, you can get a lot of carbon blow by which will build up along your chamber walls. Eventually, the carbon build up can slow extraction and cause short stroking.

Don't buy too much until you're sure your AR can run it without problems.

I just saw that sale at my local Cabelas too - Tula .223 for $3.99. Picked up 1000 rounds for $200 plus tax. They had a lot of it in the store.

Ditto what 1832 says, but in addition I would only shoot the grey polymer coated Wolf 5.56, have gone through about 50K rounds of it since it came out with very very few problems (less than silver bear)....but would stear away from the green laquer coated 5.56 (if you could even find any of it these days...I still have a case of that I usually just shoot in a SAR 3).

I was talking to the owner at my local fun store today and asked him his opinion about this very thing. Specifically the reported problems of extraction issues that the lacquer causes once the chamber heats up. He said that he spoke to a rep from Wolf about this and the problems that they were seeing was caused by a sealant used around the top of the case at the bullet . Apparently the product that Wolf was using would melt and then cause the extraction problems not the actual lacquer coating on the case itself. He explained further that the product is no longer used and the issues have gone away in the recently produced ammo. I'm not taking it as gospel but thought that I'd pass this along. FWIW I have never shot wolf in my ARs and don't know that I will.
