What am I doing wrong w/ resizing?

I am not trying to be funny but are you sure you are not trying to resize using the seating die??

And your point is? A seating die would just over crimp if lowered all the way down to touch the shell holder. It makes no contact with the body of a case.

I've ordered some Imperial die wax. We'll see if that clears it up.

That may not help either. I tried imperial for my 45/70 cases. I wondered why they were so darn hard to size. Then I switched to my other case lube, RCBS case slick spray. The difference was like night and day. All the cases had the same load fired in them, and were all once fired starline nickel. Anybody want it? If I can find it you can have it!:barf:

No offense taken, having worked tech support in college I know how you can't take some things for granted. Fortunately, in this case, I am not being a moron. The seating die is not being used :)

I should get the wax in next week, we'll see then!

wild guess

https://www.hornady.com/shop/?ps_session=e5fcfc5fe92d118c8c60277dce1b1eff&page=shop%2Fbrowse&category_id=282830cff54808ebd6d9e1dabf8fd2cf As i look at the photo of the FLRD ( i dont own any hornady) The decaping rod looks like its held by a wedge type adjustment? Is the rod threaded?? If when turning the sleave that holds the decaping rod to make it tight, it might be possible to jam this part into the neck area of the sizing die and deform it. This could happen if the diameter of the decaper rod is undersize requiring over tighting of the unit. If you look closely there is no stop on the nut/sleave holding the decapper that i can see in the photo. Once the die is deformed in the neck area, i would not matter if the decapper was in or out of the FLSD. WISH I HAD A DIE SET TO LOOK AT IN PERSON. That is my wild guess. :D

Well, I finally got the Imperial Sizing Wax in today, and I just decapped and resized thirty cases w/o any problems. I guess it was the lube after all!

lube

well this looks like a case for a sticky.one shot is bad medicine.I use lyman spray.also have lee tube.and rcbs.another one is STP.I like lyman.:uhoh::rolleyes::D

Zeede- I've been reading your thread and feeling your pain- I thought the lube was the problem, you needed a good lube. I use RCBS

I didn't reply and tell you that because you had been given that advice already. Additionally you were getting hammered by some folks who were assuming you are an idiot. They were definitely not taking the HR.

i used that one shot,on 30-06 270 and 280.it doesnt work for me.now on the 223s its fine, but I had to stand on the ram, then i got cases stuck,I went and picked up some rcbs spray lube,,WOW WHAT A HUGH DIFFERENCE,
yes that hornady one shot seems to work, but not on my bigger cases,,i got more cases stuck tring to get that stuff to work,
Im glad you found what your problem was,
Now use that oneshot on your smaller cases.

I'm also reloading .45-70, and later will get some dies for .357 Magnum. The Imperial Sizing Wax worked okay on the .45-70, but it was odd, the cases would stutter into the die. It's hard to describe, but as I applied force downwards on the press handle, the case would slip in a little at a time, but rapidly, almost like a stutter.

I was thinking the One Shot would be convenient for lubing the inside of the case necks for the expander ball. It was kind of tricky trying to wipe a little of the wax on the inside of the neck every now and then to reduce the resistance of the expander ball.

when resizing and prepping so 30.06 cases for a friend of mine a few weeks ago i ran into a really stubborn case that finally gave gave with a pop but i soon found that my lee press had broken and pished the top right off the press! it was one of the lee reloader single stage presses and i'm guessing i ran into a crimped in primer.... i got ahold of lee and they sent me a new press body casting free of charge but i did learn a lesson... from them on i checked to make sure the case might not be a mil caes with a crimped in primer.... i was useing the lee lube in the tube and things were going along pretty good until this mishap... the cases did take a bit pushing to get them full length resized but the little lee press was handleing them good... i got a shell holder from another friend of mine and used the heavy cast old bair press to resize the rest of the caes i had for him.... that thing is almost indestructable i think! anyhow lee did good by me to send the new piece to get my bench back in order....

I think "One Shot" is a great lube ... for handgun cases going through carbide dies.

TASCO - "...it was one of the lee reloader single stage presses and i'm guessing i ran into a crimped in primer...."

Those are amazingly good little presses but they do have limits. I suspect you may have needed more/better case lube instead of a crimped primer problem.

when i had a custom barrel made for the 30 Herrett,I tried all the lubes,I could not get any brand of 30-30 brass to form,I had custom rcbs dies made,
I wrote to Steve Harrett and what he used as lube for forming the cases.
He wrote back,he said he tried all the dif lubes, and found the hair gel.VO5 worked the best,I tried it.it made them cases slide right up the forming die so slick, try using that some time, you'll be amazed how well it works.and ur cases smell great too..:)
