I just picked one of these up the other day, and I was wondering what all you 1894c shooters chose ammo wise for this fine gun. I'm well aware that ammo will shoot differently in different guns, just trying to get a good idea for a starting point. I'd like something that is priced relatively reasonable(as much as possible, with todays prices anyway.) Thanks in advance.:)

just liquidated one to get a 336...here's what I fed it:

Federal American Eagle 158gr jsp; Federal Castcore 180gr hardened leadhead; Independence 158gr jsp; Remington 125gr jsp...all above being .357 magnums; basically anything with a truncated or rounded approach to the meplat; anything like a semiwadcutter got jammed on the loading ramp

Dusey,

I mostly handload my own. There are a couple that I use:
a) 158gr LRNFP load at 38special Level
b) 158gr Win HP load at normal 357M level
c) 158gr LaserCast at 357M level
d) 180gr LaserCast at normal 357M level

Mine shoots best with 158gr 357M level... But the LRNFP is much cheaper and less loud.

pbhome71 - How did the lasercast bullets work for you- any leading? SWC's feed ok?

I have an 1894C MicroGroove which I've only test-fired, and was thinking of selling it and replacing it with a newer version to get the Ballard rifling because I felt cast bullets would lead less than the MicroGroove bbl.

Just put 50 rounds of .38 Spl LSWC's through mine last night. Worked like a champ.

Factory .38 FNFMJ's and .357 TCFMJ's have seemed the most accurate, but that might be because the LSWC's are my friend's handloads and I don't think he's all that meticulous. He reloads because he's cheap, not because the rounds he makes are any good.
